Caponizing is neutering a rooster. 8-10 weeks is later than normal as they are usually done at just a few weeks. In our case, we tried to find a good home for him, but kept getting cock fighters interested in him. So, I spoke to my vet who agreed to caponized him under anesthesia and he had pain...
I'm hoping one of you can answer my question. One of our "pullets" turned out to be a roo. We don't need a roo and have had our fair share of mean roos, so we had our vet caponize him. He was caponized between 8-10 weeks of age. He's 6 months old now. Sweet, recently started crowing a lot...

You give me hope! I have a 33-34 wk old white leghorn who looks plenty mature to be laying, but isn't. I've looked high and low in every nook and cranny she could possibly be laying (limited area since they are in a fenced pen). She is the only one that could lay white eggs as the rest of...
I agree with the stupid box dyes at the grocery store. I have always gone to Sally's Beauty Supply where I can get much better quality dye than the grocery store junk. Of course....I decided to go with a grocery store box this time. Copper head later, I was back at Sally's where I can see...
Thanks so much everyone!! The dye I usually get is is Wella's Claret, which is a violet based dark brown w/purple. Of course, it is discontinued. But, thinking that the blue in the violet base would help the atrocious orange, I looked for an alternative. No such luck...I couldn't find one...
Oh....how I hope for fading....and not to the orange spectrum. I have never had issues with red before, but like I mentioned, I usually go with burgundy, so maybe there is more of a violet in there oppose to the more orangy-side of the red range. The hair around my temples looks like I coated...
So...my hair is naturally a medium ash brown on the darker side of the spectrum and I thought I would dye it with a demi-permanent to spice it up. I chose a medium auburn, which, on the box, should have come out to a medium-dark auburn brown (again, it's a demi-permanent, so no ammonia or...
As for dom white in leghorns...so, my leghorn hen crossed with my BR roo, should produce white offspring that carry the barring gene (though it would appear absent due to coloring), correct?

That makes perfect sense. I was trying to think in XX/XY, which was why I was having trouble trying to figure it out. That I know that chickens are ZW/ZZ, essentially opposite of mammals, that makes complete sense! Thanks!!
I know that a black sex-link is a RIR (or similar) roo crossed with a BR hen. But, does the sex-link work the same way if the roo is a BR? I have a BR roo with our hens including JGs, mottled Javas, buckeyes, RIR, EEs, a white Leghorn, a Delaware, welsummers and BRs. I know that all chicks...
