Well, y’all have convinced me. She’s friggen pretty! Just unlike any other EE (or as my feed store calls every year, “Americana”) we have ever had. I’ll have to update with pics. I just found her lack of all beard sus...
Yes, I know, hence the quotation marks. She has none of the characteristics of our other EEs. After looking over the list, I’m thinking BLGW. What do you think?
Hello! We purchased 4 “Americana”, 2 Speckled Sussex, 2 Salmon Faverolle, and 2 Andalusian. I think, maybe, one of my birds is a mix up. I’m not mad, just curious. What is Buffy? She definitely does not look like any of the other 7 Americanas we have have. I have included a picture of the breed...
This is the first time since the first time! They have free choice calcium available to them. We did just have a killer heat spell where we are so that could have factored in too. Good call.
We free range during the day. There have been a few incidents with predators in which I have found that my Easter Eggers have proven to be the most aware, and the fastest. My question is does anyone have other favorite breeds that are sharp, quick, and on point while out in the yard?
Update! The eggs arrived in great shape. 16 of them!! I’m going to let them settle for a few hours and slide them under Miss Ginger this evening. Someone said I should candle them and check the air cells. Anyone have advice on that??
That is scary. She is not separated yet. Once the eggs arrive, and settle a while, I’ll put them under her and move her to the Henternity suite during the night. At least that’s what I’m being advised to do on my Va Chicken FB group...what do you think/suggest? I’m 100% open to suggestions
Thank you! That makes me feel better. Also, YES! She’s a first timer. Dear Lord, I didn’t think about her quitting! I’ll have to ask my chicken guru if i can borrow hers should that be the case.
Hello, BYC friends. :frowI’m hoping this is the correct forum for this question. I have some questions regarding the choice I made recently to purchase fertilized eggs and have them shipped to place under my broody Olive Egger. She went broody for about 3 days before I ordered the eggs days ago...
I recently purchased some Ayam Cemani mix fertilized eggs. I know ACs are not known to be great layers. I was wondering if the fact that they will be mixed would increase the rate of eggs laid. The rooster is an AC the hens are BJG, EE, GLW, and Astralorps. Thoughts from the experts? TIA
Here is what he looked like...
And that was not the first time...
And this is Gladys after healing for a few weeks. She has on Blu-Kote in the pic. She was covered in blood, missing tail feathers, back of her head split open, her eye was swollen shut. It was awful!
