They also look like bantams to me as well. Brahmas are very large chickens. The bantams are straight run, not sexed. That means you usually get half roosters. Welcome to back yard chickens!
I have 3 half ayam cemani roosters. Five dollars each. Five months old. Very pretty. South central Kentucky. Will not ship. The last one looks like a hen, but has pointed saddle and hackles. It also has tried to breed hens. It just has small comb and its tail hasn't grown out yet.
I give clean water and starter feed. I also put a small amount of buttermilk or plain yogurt in there. It has live cultures, and I usually have it in my fridge anyway.
Unless they are sex link chicks, then it is pretty hard to tell until they are about 6 weeks old. You maybe able to watch some videos about how to vent sex them, but I don't think I can see that well! How old are the chicks? Many hatcheries sell chicks that have already been sexed.
I always use the humidifier when I open it because if humidity drops too low after they have piped, then they may get stuck inside the shell. Depending on what room they are in you may be able to boil a large pot of water somewhere nearby.
Do you have a humidifier? The kind you plug in that make steam when you are sick. I have used those to raise humidity externally. You just plug it in beside your incubator and let it heat up and steam for a while. When the room is nice and steamy, then I lift the lid to do what I need to do.You...
I like it! That's a great find. Glad you got a free shed to transform. When I see a large pile of construction leftovers on the curb I drive by slow. Found stuff is fun!
Don't forget to wait to introduce vaccinated chicks to the flock. It takes a little while for their bodies to produce antibodies to the Mareks. If they are around any infected chickens before they are immune, then it won't work.
I live in Kentucky, and derby hats are popular.I like hats, but I prefer small ones like the fascinator hats or the little pill box hats. I want to learn to make my own. Any advice or pictures of hats you like would be appreciated! I am curious what type of hats y'all like. Need ideas please!
Maybe you could talk to your local county extension office. Maybe they have some literature you can take to your teacher, or offer some advice. (Sorry I didn't see the above comment before I posted)
Thank you for letting me know what color the blue breasted red too is! I have not seen one that color before, so I really didn't know what he was. The mottled ones are white as chicks, so I thought it was a white based color? I am not breeding for show, so I am just curious. Thank you!
I was given some old English game Bantum chickens. Now I have a delema. I have too many birds and chores take forever. I have decided to get rid of my jumbo brown quail or the old English game bantum. I like them all, so it's really hard to decide. Any I don't keep, I will make sure they get a...
