Heat for the winter???
Does anyone add heat of any kind during the winter months, I'm in the northeast and our winters get ugly, I plan on covering the coop with the exception of the doors so they get fresh air, they have a box that is connected to the coop that they go in and was wondering if a ceramic heater or some... -

I use small wire ties to mark the males, leave them a bit loos and snip the excess off, cheap and easy! -

exactly what I use, do you put it in something that contained it, if not its all over the ground within a half hour!! I think I may build a open top box with a small opening the keep it in as long as possible! -

I had ten out of the dozen hatch, what i liked was how all the eggs had the same pas\rt removed, it was like there was a zipper in each egg for them to get out, the color variations are awesome as well, congrats on the new chicks!!! -

It was so funny, the first quail to hatch, once he got his feet under him and was walking around he started chirping like a maniac, ten minutes later another one hatched!!! It was like he was calling his buddies! -

It made sense to me to shut the egg turner off at day 16 because I’ve learned that the coturnex usually hatch between days 16-19. Sometimes they go a day or two over the 19. I would think it would cause more stress to be trying to hatch as you’re spinning, again, I’m new and I’m sure there is a... -

Correct, they’re coturnix, what’s your thought if you don’t mind me asking? If it is an issue I can simply start turning them again for a couple days if it won’t hurt them, this is my first hatch and I’d really like to get at least 40% hatch rate, not sure if that’s realistic but thought I’d aim... -

Yep! Right next to a baited trap!! The birds are surrounded by hardware cloth. It’s been a week or so and no other issues or signs of anything trying to get in, Birds seem relaxed and acting normal, an egg a day from each hen! -

You can do simple Google search, or i myself have found some nice people on craigslist in the "farm and garden" section, you'd be surprised how many you'll find, I'm in a suburb of Philadelphia and there were several, I'm sure in your area there will be plenty more! I'm not sure if this forum... -
