Instead of getting to the point where your chickens get frostbite - try a little preventive care - it's not hard. Use Vaseline, or a beeswax and vitamin E oil mixture on their feet, combs, and waddles in the winter. It prevents frostbite, keeps your chickens (and ducks) healthier, and prevents...

Confused Khaki's - sitting on eggs only at night

I plan on taking most of them out this weekend, as they have too many to sit on, and are not quite sure what to do yet. They have been great parents to the baby chicks though - the girls were showing the baby chicks how to drink out of their pond too - I wish I had that moment on video!

Confused Khaki's - sitting on eggs only at night

They are - but these girls lay an egg a day even through the winter. Maybe they will but last night I saw two of them sharing one nest, even though they've made three and filled them with eggs. They keep switching nests and then having on one. Maybe they'll figure it out?

Confused Khaki's - sitting on eggs only at night

Hi Everyone, we have 4 Khaki Campbell ducks, 3 ladies and 1 drake. We bought this breed knowing they don't like to sit on eggs and hatch out babies, but since we've had our 1 1/2 month old newest baby chicks out in the run with the grown ups, the ducks are babysitting them, following them...

    Bumblefoot

You're doing everything right so far! It's an arduous process, what I did was while it was healing I'd bring my ducks in every other day, take the bandage off, do a warm soapy water soak with Epsom salts just to really keep the area clean. Then repeat what you are already doing and put them back...

    Bumblefoot

My ducks had a bumblefoot infection that looked like that - what I did was I soaked in epsom salt and warm water, and used (wearing gloves) a razor blade to gently scrape over the scab, not to open it up but just to create a bit of a looser scab, then sprayed with Vetericyn Poultry Care Spray by...

Their eyes look so dark against their fluffy light beards! Do they sit and clean each others beards? Mine will snuggle up and just do long grooming sessions and cluck at each other as if they're telling them how messy they are.

Love these! I love the black beard on your rooster! Beards on chickens given them the BEST facial expressions - one of our hens has a funny beard and eye brown feather situation going on that gives her a resting annoyed at the world face.

Aww she's working on it! I love it when they're tiny and their beards start to take shape - it's almost like they need to grow into them at times!
