My Cayuga, Crow, has what I first thought to be bumblefoot on her feet. I checked her feet again after about an hour and a half of her and one of her flock mates sitting in a semi-warm bath (It’s very cold outside, I didn’t want to shock their systems with a hot one). I then realized that...
There were eleven, I believe. One seemed to have something wrong neurologically, always flipping over, and had splayed legs. He died. Another one we had to help out of the shell because there was no progress at all for over 26 hours. He was very weak, and died a few days later. He loved sugar...
My runner duck has an incredibly swollen foot. She was limping so badly, I thought she had been missing a toe until I saw her foot. I don’t see any injuries aside from a scrape on the foot. Is there a way to check if she has any broken bones without handling her too much? Being handled stresses...
Sorry for the late reply! We won’t be needing the cockerels. Thankfully, a full ten have hatched or are halfway out of the shell with possibly more hatching. Thank you for the offer and I hope you find someone else to take them!
Thank you! The eggs were a lot bigger than I thought, so they may be able to fit without modification. If I misjudged, I’ll modify it the way you suggested when I get home!
Hello! I’m getting bantam eggs day after tomorrow and would like to know if any of you know how to fix an egg turner so it fits bantam eggs. Would I use a piece of a paper towel to fill the bottom? Or would I have to hand-turn the eggs? I would much prefer to use the egg turner because I go into...
I'm wanting to start a flock of Nankins and will be nearby Colonial Williamsburg soon... How do I get a hold of Elaine Shirley, if you don't mind me asking?
Hello everyone! I would like a dozen or so Nankin bantam chickens. They don‘t necessarily have to be young, but young is preferred. I’m willing to drive a ways to get the chickens. I live in Cumberland Gap, TN.
Thank you! I'm glad, too. He's been hanging out with his best bud, Uka, in the bathtub and doesn't seem to mind sitting down all day. Uka doesn't seem to mind, either. I'm going to have to take his bandage off tomorrow and then I'm going to be gone for a couple of days, so I won't be able to...
Okay, we wrapped it, then it fell off, then we wrapped it again with tape on top of the bandage, and it seems to be staying on now. It doesn’t seem to bother him too much, and he’s loving the inside of the house. He’s also loving the feed that he doesn’t have to share ;)
He isn’t limping...
Thank you! I don't have those kinds of bandages, so I'm going to go into town and wrap his foot when I get back. A commenter on the post said they used a baby sock and then bandages, so I'm also going to see if I can get a pair just in case I have trouble with the layering of bandages.
The coop is made of wood, and most of the air-flow holes are much to high for a raccoon to be able to grab onto any bird, but there are thin stripes on the sides near the floor. Theres a run around the coop that isn't raccoon-proofed, but would be an annoyance to get into. The duck food tub is...
We don‘t have a natural pond, but we do have a stream small enough that I can jump over it, but big enough that they can swim comfortably. We don‘t usually have snapping turtles, but a few months ago I had to move a baby that we thought was a snapping turtle. And about a week ago, my dad saw one...
My mallard drake was limping when I came out this morning to check on them, and when I called my Dad out to come check on him, we were able to get a picture. It froze last night, but I had them all in the coop, and I had fluffy straw in there. None of the other birds are hurt, or seen overly...
I've had three geese since late December of 2018, though two of them have disappeared recently, with a very small pile of feathers left behind both times. I believe it was a bear, but have no way of knowing for sure. My last goose, Hermione Freeranger, was still very "You're a PREDATOR, so...
