I hatched out two Ameraucanas, one black and one lavender. They are twelve weeks and I am looking for help in identifying their sex. Most breeds I can tell by now but being a bit of a chicken newb these two have me stumped.
Very docile and calm actually. My husband carries him around and the roo is fine with it, just sits there. He moves out of our way when we feed and water. He has shown no sign of wanting to attack us and he is gentle with his hens when mating. We have another younger rooster of a different breed...
Nice. You thought they were close to laying . The color of mine has varied alot this week. Some dark, some light, some very nicely speckled like yours. I am loving they early laying. Kinda makes up for the not what I bought thing.
Eggs from today.
I have decided this little chicken may be a cat in disguise complete with 9 lives.
On Sunday, my in-laws dropped by with their little lap dog. The chickens were out free ranging. Before we even said hello, the pup was out of the car chasing the chickens. After a loud, stressful and frenzied few...

Just an update. At 5 wks, she is still tiny, not feathering much, but holds her own in her flock. No one picks on her and she acts like all her mates scratching and running around.
An answer to my earlier question. I managed to get the humidity where I want it at 35-45 % for day 1-18 by simply removing the red plug in the "B" water port (no water added) and keeping the vent on top wide open. It ran consistently at 37%-38% for 24 hours. In the morning, I added an additional...
I purchased this as well and have been running it to prepare for my shipped eggs arrival on Tuesday. I filled the "A" water channel with 4 oz water and opened the vent all the way in an attempt to get the humidity at 45% or less. It has been running for 6 hours and is at 48% humidity. I am...
After more research, I have concluded what I have are most likely Asian Blacks. They came from Hoover Hatchery according to the TSC where I purchased them. The TSC paperwork said they were shipped BSL and as chicks they did indeed look like BSL pullets. I contacted Hoover Hatchery about them and...
