Andalusian Runt, Bantam, or Sick

I have decided this little chicken may be a cat in disguise complete with 9 lives.

On Sunday, my in-laws dropped by with their little lap dog. The chickens were out free ranging. Before we even said hello, the pup was out of the car chasing the chickens. After a loud, stressful and frenzied few minutes, we managed to corner said pup under the car where he had one of my young blue andulusians cockerels held using his paw on the tail. Crawled under the car, freed the shaken but not hurt cockerel and promptly threw the pup in the shut up chicken run for the remainder of the visit. All unhurt, including the pup.

That evening after they cooped up, we realize that we are missing a chicken, then realize, it is Runty, the only named chicken out of 30, mind you. We spend until after dark looking everywhere, in the garage, the shed, the woods, the 1 neighbors, the cars. The runt is nowhere to be found. I hope that she is hiding and will return in the AM.

Nope. No Runty. We accept that she fled too far from the pup into the woods and was dinner for one of our many critters in the area.

Fast forward to yesterday evening. I'm doing the farm chores after work and go into the garage for something. The garage is alway open when we are home and we are constantly in and out of it. I hear a noise in a corner behind some totes, investigate and there is Runty peeking out from behind a tote! She is skittish but finally comes out for water and food. She hears her flock after a minute, runs out the door and is happily free ranging with them in a second. Some ragged tail feather but otherwise unharmed.
:wee
This morning, she is perfectly happy and just a little smaller than her mates at 10 weeks old.

She looks like she's catching up now too. She may remain a runt but looks like she's doing well. Glad that naughty dog didn't get her.
