Hello all.
I am thinking about building a portable chicken coop in the future. I have found lots of great ideas about design, etc. However, this would be the primary house for my chickens and I probably won't have more than two. I want to have one with an open floor so they can graze. But I'm...
There is a show on Veria called The Sweet Truth. The girl on there does recipes for all sugar free, wheat free foods. I remember she did a gluten free bread show. Check her out.

I'm sure this has been covered before but I don't know where to look. I have a broody hen that I'm going to put eggs under. How should I set up her separately from the others? Should the nest be ground level? How many eggs should I put under her to get a least a few birds? Thanks.
Hi, everyone.
Part of the reason I got chickens was because I knew they could help with bug control. But I have a special situation that I don't think they can help with.
The only outside door on my house is a patio style door with a large window on one side and the door itself has a gigantic...
Katy "I think everyone should be able to have whatever animal they chose to as a pet, but those who chose to raise animals as a source of income should also be allowed that right."
I agee completely with this.
Rather recently, I've started looking at my life and considering a more...
Hello everyone, I was going to order from these guys and was wondering if they are still haveing problems with the chicks. I'm not sure what was happening but does anyone know if the problem is resolved? Thanks.
My girls LOVE shrimp. I get cocktail shrimp every once in a while and I always give the leftovers to them. Pretty much, if a person can eat it, then chickens can eat it.

That's why I thought it was so strange that they wouldn't eat it! I'd love to see my girls fight over a big hornworm! I love watching them scratch around after a rain looking for earthworms and then fight over the ones they find!
Well, the dummy eggs should help. One suggestion is how high are you nest boxes off the floor. Mine are about 1 1/2 ft off the ground but I still have a small ramp up to them so it's easier for the chickens to get up. Try picking up your hens and placing them in the boxes, maybe they don't know...
I think it has to do with the fact that they prefer to roost at night rather than laying on the ground. If they have access to a roost, that's where they'll go at night. Plus if they know there is food, water and a place out of the wind, they'll go there.
My mom used to keep chickens and had a garden with tomatoes. She swears up and down that the one bug they refused to eat was a tomato worm!! You know those big fat green worms you get on your tomatoes? She tried numerous times to give the chooks a worm and they wouldn't touch it.
In my brooder I never use shaving or loose litter of any kind. I prefer plain white paper towels. I don't use newpaper as it's too slippery. I layer three or four layers of paper towels in the bottom and I change it once a day. The poo is mostly absorbed or dried on the paper towels.
BUT I...
