    Feather pecking

This is almost verbatim for my post over the weekend. Right now the feather puller is out of the run and free-ranging until roosting time. I'm waiting for the pinless peepers to come in. I've tried EVERYTHING!

    Pecking Feathers

I've been feeding them Dumor Organic Layer Pellets (16% protein). I'll have to research to find a feed that's higher in protein. Thank you so much for your advice.

    Pecking Feathers

They are 10 months old. The run is 10 feet wide by 20 feet long. I have a net on top to prevent hawks from attacking them. They get locked in at night (there's a smaller run attached to their coop) to keep the predators out. I open the smaller run which gives them access to the larger run area...

    Pecking Feathers

I'm new to backyard chickens and hoping to get some expert advice from veteran chicken owners. I have 3 Amberlinks and 1 of them is pecking feathers out of the other two. Their bums are naked. I've been trying to figure out what the heck is going on with them. I was cleaning their coop and...

    Chickens losing bottom feathers

I have 2 of 4 chickens with the same problem. I've been searching the internet to figure out what the heck is causing it. Did you ever figure out what was going on? I know it's been a few years but I am at a loss. Thanks for any feedback.

    Feather question...

I have 4 hens and one of them is losing feathers on her belly. Her skin is normal color and there's no irritation or bleeding. She is acting fine and eating and drinking. I'm not sure what this is. She's the only one this is happening to. Any feedback would be appreciated as this is my first...

    Deep Litter Method Question

Thanks for the information. I didn't really understand the deep litter method in that I definitely don't have enough space. The girls are out a good portion of the day free ranging. We're going to increase the run size now that we have a break from the heat. I really appreciate all the...

    Deep Litter Method Question

I think 5 feet by 5 feet. I tried to find the coop on line but not having any luck. Found it!

    Deep Litter Method Question

    Deep Litter Method Question

I guess I don't know what the heck I'm doing. I'm already worried about them getting frostbite.

    Deep Litter Method Question

It does have little vent slider windows which I've kept fully open all summer. I'm thinking I might have to put wider roosting bars and lower them a bit.

    Deep Litter Method Question

I did kind of think that the store bought pre-fab coop would just be until we built our own bigger one. I'm just worried about the cold weather coming. I'm thinking about straw in the run and I'll just keep doing what I'm doing now with the pine shavings inside the coop. I clean it daily. I just...

    Deep Litter Method Question

Yes! Except the coop isn't raised. It's on the ground. It is small but when I got it the description said it would be good for 8 chickens. There's no way, in my opinion, that it's big enough for 8. I think it's just right for 4 MAX.

    Deep Litter Method Question

I only have 4 chickens. The coop said large enough for 8, but I can't see ever putting 8 chickens in it.

    Deep Litter Method Question

Good morning all! I have a quick question...I am new to byc. I live in New England, and although we've had 100 degree heat I'm looking into what to do this winter when the cold weather hits. I've been reading about the deep litter method but my coop has a metal slide pan at the bottom for...
