In February 2009 we purchased plans for the "Chicken playhouse coop". I built it from cypress that I purchased at a local sawmill and cut to size myself. In the process I knew my wife could not unscrew and lift the front of the roost box per the instructions for cleaning so I modified the design...
Before you trim the bottom why not try making the slurry they talked about at the beginning? If she has already figured out how to drink she may quickly learn to drink the slurry. If you trim the beak first you might remove that as an option without making her a viable way to eat. No matter...
Ok thanks. That was one of the thoughts I had but didn't figure it would be a continuing deal. No roosters but sometimes ladies can fail to play well together I guess. Should I separate them for a while? see if it stops? any thoughts?
Something is going on and I am worried. We have three Barred Rocks that are around 14 months old. All have been consistently healthy and we have had no know issues with them. They are all laying normally and acting normaloly. In the last three days one has developed some sort od scale on it's...

I have sent a direct email and loive in the same little city offering to let this person visit my coop, see how we do it, and to try and and answer any questions I can. Additionally I remember how daunting a jump it felt like when we started and can sympathize.
Thanks so much for the link! It really helps! I have been feeding them the misc items that are left over from the garden and suddenly realized I could be doing a bad thing!!
Good spring to all! I have enjoyed gleaning information from your website for quite some time and have found it extremely helpful to my wife and I. We live in a fairly rural area and decided a little over a year ago that we wanted some hens for laying. I built a coop, we bought three chicks and...
