I have five nearly three-week old ducklings inside at the moment. I have six fully grown ducks and a chicken outside. I would like to start bringing the ducklings out to see them, and I have a pen for the whole look-don’t-touch idea. I’m just wondering how cold is too cold to bring them out...
They’re so precious!! I’ll be letting them swim a little bit tomorrow in some warm water. My Khaki Campbells loved to cuddle up to me when they were babies!
A few weeks ago I ordered some ducklings off Cackle Hatchery. Went and picked them up on Thursday! I purposely picked breeds known to be friendly (as none of my Khaki Campbelss or Anconas outside like me at all). Currently they eat out of my hand and occasionally tolerate being pet a little bit...
Hi!! I’d like to start showing ducks, but I’m not entirely sure of where to start with getting them or getting into it. I’d like to show either Buff Orphington ducks or Welsh Harlequins. Anyone know of good breeders for show quality ducklings, some tips for raising them, and how to get started...
I’ve got three Khaki Campbells and three Anconas. I was sitting out in their pen and watching them all gathered up by their pool; one of the Anconas had gotten into the pool to drink, and the moment she had a little bit of trouble getting out they all freaked out and started quacking up a storm...
I let mine take a bath before two weeks, so I'd say you're good. The water i put them in was warm, and they loved it! Even if it wasn't quite deep enough to swim in, they liked to just splash around.
There should be lots of information to find on outdoor aviaries-- lots of people do them! I think more often larger parrots tend to be the ones kept outside, but I'm sure little parakeets can stay outside too, if you build the cage right to prevent escapes and predators.
My CAG does a lot of loud chirps and smoke alarm noises when I'm downstairs and she wants me to come see her. I can hear her a couple floors below (granted, the floors are hardwood so sounds travels easier) but she's never screeched or screamed.
Personally, I name my animals in group themes-- for example, my four Khaki ducklings are all named after flowers. Other options are foods, stars, spices, etc.
