I wanted to share my duck coop I built this summer -fall (it took a long time lol). I have never built anything before and used all old wood sitting around the farm. Some from broken corals, old chop house ext. My expenses were the screws, 2 sheets of plywood and a used window I got at a...
Yes he should have a green head if he's a drake. But he should also have a black bill if he was a hen.
I was just wondering if there was any thoughts as to why that duck was different from its parents and siblings.
I let my welsh harlquine trio hatch some eggs. (The one girl went broody when I was away so I just left her be)
I have 1 that has an orange bill but not a green head like all the other drakes
Is he a drake or?
He is middle here, not the greatest pic but snapped it before I let them out for...
Thought id give an update incase anybody wanted to know.
Nothing was broken just lots of soft tissue. She has ran around the house the last 2 days and today I started integrating her into her new flock as hers is all gone.
She was very content and happy inside and got really friendly and came...
I put the other survivor in a different (much more secure coop) with other chickens I have. I was worried the stranger chickens would stress her more than being alone. The other too are in creat getting integrated into that flock.
I have been bringing a pair of bantams (and will be until this...
I'm looking for any advice or experience on similar experiences. Or just good thoughts our way, I've cried lits the last couple days.
Sorry this got so long trying to explain the time line.
I very sadly had an attack on one of my coops not last night the night before. It woke me up and though...
Left is the Curious and Right is Shy.
They are old english bantam (not show quality)
She bought them on her birthday with her birthday money 7 months ago.
Im not going to get into a debate, I don't like it either but people still need to be prepared and ready for the changes regardless of their feelings on the matter.
Its whole basis is to combat anti-microbial resistance.
I am still able to have meds on hand and treat as needed, but you MUST have a working relationship with a vet to be able to keep working like that.
This will likely be harder for urban flocks or small hobby farms. It is in a way easy...
I thought it would be worth mentioning and letting members know by the end of the year in canada there will be huge changes in canada for the purchase of antibiotics for the use of livestock.
We can no longer purchase them without a veterinary prescription. So suggesting to do so at the local...
They do not all live in the same group but we currently have:
9 ducks (started with a trio and hatched some eggs)
10 bantams (started with a breeding pair and hatched and bought more)
8 2017 hatch chickens (used them to hatch many more laying hens and freezer rooster lol)
16 in first group of...
She is being a very good mom! We just picked her and the chicks up yesterday but they are settled in great and the kids just love her and the chicks. She and any pullet chicks will be living with my daughters old english bantam pair for the winter.
She dose not have the wyandotte combe and her mom was a bit of a question as to what she was but thought the moms dad was her wyandotte bantam rooster.
The chicks she has do appear to have rose combes.
We just acquired a pretty bantam hen she is thought to be half Japanese bantam (her dad) and her moms dad is thought to be a silver laced wyandotte bantam.
Does that look about right? I just love her shape, and she has 4 chicks thought to fathered by a wyandotte bantam rooster so excited to...
Im just picturing .... Sunday morning brunch, windows open enjoying the fresh morning air. Calming sounds of hens clucking in the distance, birds chirping, kids actually getting along giggling and playing. All broken by the loud shrieking GOBBLE GOBBLE GOBBLE of a tom who should have been a...
