    Summer molting?

I'm in North Texas and I'm seeing the same thing. I have three that have not laid in weeks. I have check for mites. Nobody is egg bound. Food has not changed. Our temps have been normal for July in Texas (low to upper 90's). I figured the lack of eggs was due to the stress of our two new...

    Any Home Bakers Here?

Good Morning All, cup of tea in hand and planning the day. Need to make some bread and clean a chicken coop, then out in the garage to get some work done. I made this lovely buttermilk strawberry cake a few days ago and it was so yummy! Hope you all have a blessed day.

    Any Home Bakers Here?

A good cup of tea and a slice of warm fresh bread with home made butter is the best!

Extreme cold - what is “too cold?”

I'm in north texas also and we are prepping for the unusually cold weather. It's been in the 20's for 3 days. Nothing compared to our northern states, but definitely far from the norm here. We wrapped the run with clearish plastic tarp at the beginning of winter, leaving enough gaps at the top...

Ended Official BYC Contest—Post Your Best (Worst) Chicken Molt Pictures - 2020

Mocha started a couple of weeks ago. I was standing in the yard and she shook. Feathers went everywhere! The other girls are picking on her, but she is getting special treats and we made her a small run that she can hang out in without getting pecked. The other girls will have their day soon I...

An egg within an egg x5! Help!

We just had a similar issue this morning but the outer egg was soft shell and the inner hard. All the girls are a bit off this week. We have had hot (high 90’s low 100’s) with unusually high humidity. Almost lost one to heat exhaustion. I don’t recall the girls going off their laying with the...

Good morning and thank you for the coffee! Everyone got up a wee bit early here and I am finally getting to sit down and have a cup. We also have a new member of our family, Little Harper. Merlin is teaching her the ropes.

    Lost one of my flock

Thank you all. I have to say it hit me harder than I thought. But I do have to say that my flock does seem happier now that the Mardi is not bullying them. Darcy’s butt and neck feathers are even starting to grow back.

I had put her in time out this morning because she was beating up on Darcy, our copper Maran. She was in a shady spot in a wire kennel on grass. An hour later, the sun was getting over the kennel so went to check on her and move her and she was dead. No feathers to suggest an attack.

Good Day, been away for a bit, but this morning I lost one of my girls so figured I find solace with a few feathered friends. How is everyone’s summer starting?

    Lost one of my flock

I have five girls, Peepers - Brahma, Mocha - Buff Bantam Brahma, Holler - Americana, Darcy - Copper Maran and Mardi Gras - Black Star. Mardi has been beating up on Darcy, so this morning after seeing several feathers plucked off of Darcy I pulled out one of my wire kennels, found a wonderful...

Meclizine to help with the vertigo. Unfortunately she is not improving. The vet said it could also be a brain tumor or stroke. Mercy is almost 15 years old and that's pretty old for a big pit.
