We just got chickens this year. We had to show our 2 Great Danes that the chickens were part of our family. That took about a week of holding collars. We took the dogs to the chickens every time we went outside for about a week and we petted chickens, fed chickens, talked to the chickens...
The roost IS right above the door. I will do some re-arranging asap. That is exactly what is going on. Pearl roosts right above the door. Great advice. Thank you
Advice please... So I have a small flock of four and my smallest RIR is lowest on the pecking order. She does ok and only once have I notice her with an actual injury. But...they won't let her in the roost at night.. I wouldn't mind so much but am worried about her being out alone when it gets...
I've only given the cheese a few times but it seems like now that just the hope of some cheese makes them come running every time I call them with a bowl of anything in my hand. Lol. It cracks me up when they put their heads down and run full speed to me.
Poor Pearl. She was being so brave and tried to kill that snake hanging by the coop. The other hens were freaking out but she is so protective, she flew straight up at it, feet first, attacking that snake with such bravery-except.....said snake was actually a fly strip hanging by the coop. So...
Yeah. 9x4 and the coop part is 4 x4ish. She is actually really sweet unless I'm trying to make her do something she doesn't want to do. I think she is too smart. I will video when she does it again. Hopefully our little episode this morning taught her that I'm the HBIC!!!
You know what else is weird. After dusk the other girls can barely find the door. I think they can't see it very well because that area is so dark but she seems to see fine. I noticed her last night when the other girls were in after getting their cheese on-she was on the patio getting June...
Omg guys. The cheese did the job. Wow..They really went crazy for some cheese!!! But to answer your question the run is 9X4, is in the shade all day and has a fan. There are windows on the side and the top vents. They actually go in there in the hottest part of the day. It does get hot...
I just put them in around 9 or 930 when I have to go to bed. They are out from 7am-930 at night but they have to go in when I go to bed because we have so many predators.
I will totally try separating her for a little while. No amount of treats works but I haven't tried cheese (will totally do this tonight). And no the dialogue isn't silly. I totally heard her say that very thing -Lol. Thanks
