Okay. Making a list right now of stuff to do.
1. Add extra food and water stations; monitor to MAKE SURE she is eating and drinking.
2. Up the protein to help get through her molt and put on more weight.
3. Give pumpkin and pumpkin seeds for protein and as a natural wormer. (The girls looooove...
As far as I can tell she eats and drinks regularly, but I may quarantine her for a bit in a few days and make sure. Luckily my schedule is pretty clear for the next month so I have time to be a doting chicken mama!
I'll also see if I can get my hands on some pumpkin seeds!
Regarding upping...
So for now should I just try to boost up the protein? I don't want to medicate unnecessarily if I can avoid it, but if the protein doesn't make her put on some weight I'll consider it.
Thanks for the reply!
This is my first ever flock of chickens and none of them have been wormed. We've been trying to get more protein in, I know that's important.
Hi y'all, I've hesitated to post this for a while - I might just be a paranoid chicken mom, but nothing is getting better so I ask for you help now!
My Buff Orpington is about a year and a half old and has always been quite lightweight for and orpington. For the past few months she seems to be...
She hasn't been wormed - but a lot of you seem to be saying you have similar hens, so for the moment I won't worry about it. I'll still keep an eye on her though and come back if it gets worse.
Thanks for your help!
Hmm, I had considered that. People have different body types, why not chickens? Heh. Might just be me being a worried first-time chicken mama.
I'm going to continue to keep a close eye on her and make sure she doesn't get worse.
I've been noticing lately that my 10 month old Buff Orp Ruby has been feeling a little skinny compared to the girls (all the same age)_ but today I really noticed it. I can feel her breastbone prominently all the way up and down, she has hardly any meat on her. I weighed her today and she barely...
My SLW did just the same as yours - comb turning pink waaaay early - like, a week old - I was dead set that she was a rooster, but nope! I'm going to start laying eggs! And I breathe a sigh of relief.
The poor thing was ugly as sin until she started getting her big girl feathers in though. When...
The first chick is almost certainly a black australorp; she looks just like mine did. She grew some white feathers in her wings when she was young, but as she got older she outgrew them and is now pure black.
I don't know about the second one; it's feet look too yellow to be an Orpington to me...
Wyandotte is a roo; curved tail feathers and saddle feathers give it away.
Can't help with the Jap. or the silkies, but the Polish are both girls. Very pretty birds! Wish I had some Polish.
Oh, duh. I completely forgot to look at the comb, but now that you mention it it looks identical to the comb on my SLW.
I'm gonna have to guess Columbian Wyandotte now also!
