What is happening to my duck eggs? (Long post)

The temperature is being taken at ground level so base of the egg. Humidity is as low as I can get it. I haven't put any water in the incubator at all. I'm in NC and it's been very hot and humid for weeks. Too late in the season I think to start new eggs because it will be getting colder by the...

What is happening to my duck eggs? (Long post)

hmm OK. I'll turn it up a bit. The directions with it said 99.5 so I assumed. Anyways this will be the last time I ever incubate eggs. They probably would have had a better shot outside the way this has been going

What is happening to my duck eggs? (Long post)

It's a little giant still egg air incubator. The temperature has only fluctuated from 99.5-100.1 as far as I've seen and I record it 3 times a day. Also double checked this temperature with a second thermometer and it is reading accurate. The humidity is about 40-50% and is also correct. We used...

What is happening to my duck eggs? (Long post)

I'm incubating duck eggs. This is the second time I've attempted. The incubator was cleaned and the duck eggs were wiped off with a dry cloth before placing them in the incubator. I had 8 and all of them were viable but on day 17 it appears only one still has vessels and is moving. The others...

Hatching batches in the same incubator

They are buffs. All from the same clutch but there is a gap because they were getting stolen from her nest outside. So there were some at the beginning then she would give up for a few days and start again. We would collect them as we found them

    Duck egg candling day 12

Well I'm not able to see it well in these pictures but the yolk kind of dips. Towards one end it isnt level with The way the egg is sitting or nicely rounded anymore. My sister said she does think the yolk is rotating to be on the top but it doesn't rotate immediately. So I guess it is moving...

Hatching batches in the same incubator

Oh that makes me feel better. I asked this question before but the only answer I really got was buy another incubator. I know people do it other ways so I'm trying to get like down to the minute instructions. I lost both my ducks last time so I want to do everything possible to insure survival...

Hatching batches in the same incubator

What kind os the cheap one? The cheapest I've found to hold the number of eggs I have is around $60.. I likely won't ever be doing this again so I really don't want to have to buy a second incubator. I know people have had success using just one. I would like to know what you change and which...

Hatching batches in the same incubator

if I hatch 2 batches of duck eggs in the same incubator a week apart, what do I do during lockdown? I'm going to raise the humidity but what about turning the younger eggs. My automatic turner is either the whole incubator or not at all and I've been hand turning thus far. A second incubator is...

    Duck egg candling day 12

Also we've been rotating the eggs 3 times a day. Should the yolk come to the top? Thus far I don't think I've noticed it moving as I turn the egg but I haven't been paying that close attention. I know it doesn't immediately move as I turn the egg but i don't know if it has been if I leave it on...

    Duck egg candling day 12

this is my first time incubating eggs laying down the entire time. What should a candle of it look like at day 12? My egg is developing but to me it looks strange. I don't have a picture but can someone post pictures of yours at this more developed stage so I can compare. It looks like the yolk...

    Blood ring in egg?

I have an egg in the incubator that Never developed but I left it just in case. It's sibling of the same age is pretty far along. So today is day 13 and I decided it was definitely rime to call it quits on the dud. So I candle to make sure I'm removing the correct egg and there is a ring of red...

Duck sitting on nest full of golf balls. Help! (Long post)

Yeah we won't do this again. All of the kids are going off to school. We've raised ducks for 12 years on this lake and never had a duckling survive (and only ever had 5 hatch naturally despite having 16 ducks) so we got excited about these. I don't know how smart ducks are but the past two...

Duck sitting on nest full of golf balls. Help! (Long post)

All the ducks are "ours" but they were raised to adulthood and then released onto the lake. I really have no control over anything except collecting the eggs in the nest. The ducks do their own thing on the lake, come home for meal time, then leave again. They know we are a source of food and...

Duck sitting on nest full of golf balls. Help! (Long post)

Well she doesn't care while she is sitting but when she came off for her "break" she wanted to be with them. He eggs are definitely fertilized because we have some developing in the incubator now. Don't know if fertilized eggs consistently being laid in her nest qualifies her as broody?

Duck sitting on nest full of golf balls. Help! (Long post)

Sorry I don't know duck terminology. I'm obviously new at this. I was under the impression ducks lay one egg a day in the nest and don't sit on them until they have the desired number they want to incubate? So she is broody but until today had only been laying and not yet incubating. There are...

Duck sitting on nest full of golf balls. Help! (Long post)

If we take all her eggs/golf balls, from her past actions I am confident she will just return to this same nest. We had a pen up when we were raising them but homeowners association in our private neighborhood required we disassemble it so we no longer have it. The drakes usually wait for her to...

Duck sitting on nest full of golf balls. Help! (Long post)

Today is the first day she has stayed on her nest. So I'm assuming she is no longer broody and is now incubating. But if we leave her overnight to be sure, there is a good chance she will be attacked overnight so we have to make the call today.
