These are my two White Plymouth rocks. They are 14 weeks old. I am pretty confident they are White Rocks. Now comes the question of are they hens or are they roos. They look exactly the same as each other and act exactly the same. They are very friendly and always under foot when I go to feed...
Hello, where I am we have no complaints about our animals. If you are on 5 acres you shouldn't have to worry. All of this land I believe is still considered farm/agriculture land. Lots of people have chickens and roosters.
I got them from someone in Queen Creek, Arizona. Charlette is the only one I am questioning being a Cochin/D'uccle mix. The littlest one is for sure a cochin/D'uccle mix. Introducing Chicken Little. When they are old enough to lay, I will be hatching their eggs.
This is Charlette she is about 4 months old now. I was told she is a Cochin/D'uccle mix. I'm not so sure she is. She does not have as much feathering on her feat like her sisters. Charlette is the black and brown chicken. Her feathers look green in the sun light.
My two roos are about 4 months old now. The brown Frizzle one is a D'uccle/Cochin bantam and we call him Bulldog. The other is a silver laced Polish bantam and we call him Afro Chicken. They have been raised together since they were 2 weeks old. Bulldog is the dominant one and will sometimes...
I have 5 baby chicks that I picked up. 3 were supposed to be D'uccle chicks and 2 are D'uccle/ Cochin mix. The 2 black chicks I have are the mix ones. The three D'uccle chicks are brownish because they are the Mille Fleur color. This little D'uccle chick looks like it is a frizzle. Could she/he...
What do you all think, Roo and Pullet? They are both D'uccle chicks and are 3 weeks old. I feel like the little one in front is a Roo and the other is a Pullet. I know they are probably too young to know for sure but just a guess. Somehow I got them to be the same in both pictures. :lau
Ever since I switched from the heat lamp to a heat plate and my chicks now have day and night. When I turn off the bedroom light for bedtime, my baby chicks throw a huge fit. :hitThey eventually settle down and go to sleep. They are just like children :lau
That is one of my fears with the heat bulb. Im so sorry that happened to you. When I looked up and read that a 250 watt heat bulb can get up to 480° I said nope and switched to the heat plate.
I will try and get a picture for you of my gals chilling in their pool. Another person in AZ posted a picture on facebook of an egg in the chickens pool. One of her hens decided to just stay in the pool and lay an egg :lau shallow water bowls and shade is a must in the heat.
As far as the heat goes. I would provide your chicks with a shallow water bowl so they can stand in it when they get hot. I live in AZ, high temps right now are 110°, and have a kiddie pool for them to stand in. They love their pool.
All of my chicks I have right now are Bantams. I have 3 D'uccle chicks, 2 D'uccle Cochin mix chicks, and 4 polish chicks, one of my polish chicks is a runt. The heat plate seems to work great for them. The polish are about a week older than my others. I keep one side of the heat plate lower than...
I think that is a great idea. In my chick brooder I have the heat plate and also a fleece blanket and wool socks full of beans that I warm up for them. They love using the fleece blanket and wool socks as pillows
Just came across your post. If you are still deciding if you should get a heat plate or not, I would recommend getting the premier 1. I just got the small one, up to 15 chicks, and my chicks love it. It is amazing. They are so happy and sleep well. No fire hazard. And you won't burn yourself...
