If not coccidiosis what could it be? pooing red and goo EVERYDAY, no other symptoms.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts...the other girl is doing really well, though her poops are dark green and greasy most days, she took forever to start laying, but once that was over she's bounced back really well and now is laying healthy eggs and she looks a picture of health (except for the...

If not coccidiosis what could it be? pooing red and goo EVERYDAY, no other symptoms.

UPDATE: Thought I'd come back and post final update in case it can help anyone in the future. As I've found it frustrating at times when i've followed a thread and no final outcome is ever posted. So here it is, and hope anyone looking for similar poo issues might find a possible answer other...

If not coccidiosis what could it be? pooing red and goo EVERYDAY, no other symptoms.

It might end that way...at the moment she is very active and vibrant...but those poops...grrr..gave her high dose of oregano concentrated oil and her poops have slowly and finally gone back to normal...but without knowing what the cause is, it might simply be a matter of time before it all...

If not coccidiosis what could it be? pooing red and goo EVERYDAY, no other symptoms.

Not even the fasting for 24 hours prior to de-worming? My only fear with fasting is the weak state they'll be in especially as they're already have gone through restricted diet due to suspected coccidiosis for weeks now. De worming also is not exactly a gentle bodily experience...worms are going...

If not coccidiosis what could it be? pooing red and goo EVERYDAY, no other symptoms.

Oh seems like it's very toxic...nothing like Amprolium? which is what the the guy who i bought it from said it was. I have a bit left anyway and Ill start mixing it with new layer feed that I will be buying. I only purchased after first bloody poo came out due to suspected coccidiosis, but i...

If not coccidiosis what could it be? pooing red and goo EVERYDAY, no other symptoms.

it ate frozen tiny whiting fish just before the poops started (two days before)...not sure if it was that or the feed at the time.(I changed it to medicated feed next day)..maybe it had mold spores as i hear it can irritate gut also. I suspect it the whiting as the one most affected is the one...

If not coccidiosis what could it be? pooing red and goo EVERYDAY, no other symptoms.

Thanks for that, I shall look into it further. It would be easier to dose them with the Wormout , as it doesn't require fasting for 24 hours and one tablet does 2kg chicken weight!! My chickens are around 1.5kgs at the moment at 18weeks of age...a bit thin I think for their age. Otherwise I'll...

They free range, but it occurred before i started letting them out to greener pastures. I do have two compost bins in the run, which i've now taken out. And i did see the bird in question checking it out via a hole in the bin...eek. They are strange things these "threads", doing my head in...

In terms of fasting, does that mean no free ranging for the girls? or does it refer to actual "meals" as opposed to dirt on the ground?

If not coccidiosis what could it be? pooing red and goo EVERYDAY, no other symptoms.

Unfortunately, I have dirt and hay in my pen so not sure it will stop them from taking nibbles at the ground. This morning I found a bit more of the gooey red poo in the coop, but very little. To make thing worse it's rain rain rain here. There is Equimax here in the pet store. But not sure...

If not coccidiosis what could it be? pooing red and goo EVERYDAY, no other symptoms.

Thanks for the input everyone. I've purchased the Avitrol Plus. It's only got 4mg Praziquantel per tablet though and says to give 1.5 tablets up to every 1kg of bird weight. I'm hoping that's strong enough as I've read somewhere that it should be 20mg Praziquantel per 1kg at least. It also says...

If not coccidiosis what could it be? pooing red and goo EVERYDAY, no other symptoms.

You guys are amazing...thank you so much...I suspected a bit as the threads are too uniform and consistent to be intestinal lining. My pet shop guy (also chicken owner) also suggested it was a thread worm. Maybe the test came out negative as it didn't have worm residue at that particular time...

Wow interesting! Now just have to go find some peroxide. Strangely it's been weeks now that this chicken (and the only one) has pooing this way EVERY DAY but with no visible symptoms, except vet did say she was a bit thin in the breast bone area. She is actually probably the largest of the four...

They're on 1.5grams of Amprolium 200 per one litre of water. I mix half of it in their medicated feed to ensure they take it. The rest is in the water feeder/container. They're free ranging so Ihave to follow them around with the litre of medicated water and medicated crumbles or mix to try to...
