    Remembering our girl Dee Dee

Me too and my son loved doing something special for his girl. He even added his favourite rock from his rock collection before he went to bed.

    Remembering our girl Dee Dee

We lost our girl yesterday. Today we honoured her in a way we thought she would love. Dee Dee’s favourite treats were blueberries so today, with the help of her flock, my husband, son and I planted and blueberry garden. We marked each bush with a hand painted marker in her honour. She was loved...

Recently lost a bird, what to do next?

I was just looking into locations to send her. I truly am baffled by her sudden death she was a young newly laying hen who by all standards appeared healthy right up until the afternoon a day and a half before she died. I appreciate you taking the time to respond.

Recently lost a bird, what to do next?

So my sweetheart of a bird suddenly stopped using on leg. This was two days ago. I separated her and allowed her rest as well as made a vet appointment for today. Unfortunately she passed through the night. I have no idea what claimed her but I am guessing the leg issue was a symptom and not the...

Just Curious about "hobby people" vs raisers...

I like you am a sap. I have a very small flock and haven’t lost any but it is a daily fear. And even though my rooster is a total jerk I can’t get rid of him for fear of what future he may face. Dumb stupid Silkie is too adorable for a pot.

    Creating my flock

I have a mixed flock. Brahma, Barred Rock, Orpington and a Silkie (who turned out to be a Roo). They all get along and have had no major scuffles. My Brahma was always bigger then all the rest and was super gentle with all the others. She is also a good consistent layer. I have heard the same...

Will He Crow A Lot? (Silkie Cockerel)

This is my Silkie Rooster (who has just begun crowing). He mostly just does it in the morning but has done it a couple times randomly during the day. It is too loud. I don’t know that you would hear it inside a closed house.
