We lost our girl yesterday. Today we honoured her in a way we thought she would love. Dee Dee’s favourite treats were blueberries so today, with the help of her flock, my husband, son and I planted and blueberry garden. We marked each bush with a hand painted marker in her honour. She was loved and this memorial is something our family could do for her and us.

So very sorry for your loss.

I can’t think of a better way to love and remember her than by planting this fantastic blueberry patch. The addition of the artwork, which is beautiful, was super too. I love “art” in a garden. :hugs
Me too and my son loved doing something special for his girl. He even added his favourite rock from his rock collection before he went to bed.

That little boy is going to grow up to be a caring and loving young man. :hugs
We have always been a family who loved animals too. They’ve been an important part of our four kids lives. Our youngest is now 21.

That child has been spreading her wings and living independently this year, but still in the town where we live, so we joke that we see her more now than when she lived under our roof.
A few weeks ago, our much beloved family dog, who had cancer had to be euthanized.

His diagnosis was sudden. His decline was shockingly, just a few days. We loved him so very much. The pain for us as a family was incredible.
We wanted him to stay with us but we loved him enough to not dare risk what they told us would be an inevitable and catastrophic hemorrhage. We couldn’t allow ourselves to selfishly ruin his wonderful, happy life with fear and pain at the end.

DD arranged to be off from work and spent the entirety of his last day with us and him... went with us to the vet...loved and ushered him through his last seconds on earth as her out of town siblings’ representative...was gentle kind and appreciative of the staff at the animal hospital. Suddenly I realized she was “grown up”.
She offered to drive US home...has repeatedly cried over the loss of him right along with us but has also said “We did the right thing.”

Being a parent is a difficult job with joy and challenges and rewards but also pain and suffering. They don’t tell you that when they hand you that baby. A lifetime is the outcome of the culmination of of all of our experiences, both happy and sad.

It’s an admirable thing that you’ve made DeeDee’s life AND her passing so important to your whole family.
Please accept my sincerest sympathy on DeeDee’s passing and many hugs to your family. :hugs
I hope the blueberries grow like crazy for you!

Thank you for this. I hope our boy grows to be as caring and compassionate as your daughter. And hopefully as close by. ♥️♥️

Very nice. I love how the other chickens helped out, too.
We do the same for our dogs, they each have a tree. A special hen we had, Daisy, got her own fig tree. It's a nice way to remember your furry and feathered family members. Sorry for your loss, hope you have many pounds of blueberries!
