I recently picked up my boy, 'baby'. I was surprised at how heavy he had got so decided to weigh him, 10.430kg(22.99lb) he's a 1 year old Ross broiler, a runt I saved from the farm. He's the most loving chook I've ever met and always wants cuddles. He also likes me to vacuum him with the vacuum!
Hi Nick, welcome! You're going to love your chooks so much! You'll wonder why you didn't get them sooner. And yes, it's perfectly OK to have conversations with the girls 🤣
Thank you for that, yep, I got rid of the bottle soon as I got home yesterday. I hope it's not too late.. Put some water in at day 18? Or the end of day 17? Certainly I'll do things different next time. The instructions for this incubator are useless alright. How to set it up and that's it! My...
I think I have the same incubator. M16? This is my 1st time, I'm just following my nose. Day 14 yesterday, candled last nite and thought the egg cell looked far too small. Should I just get ridve that stupid bottle, mine spilled everywhere too. How much water instead do you think? They're...
Funny! My light sussex got a fright and accidently flew over the low fence keeping them away from my flower gardens. Big panic ensued. I suggested that since she'd just flew over she could fly back. No. Couldn't be done.
I sprouted some wheat for my girls. Thought it'd be a lovely treat, like yours, they weren't too sure bout the idea but when I came back to see how it went, they'd carefully removed all the sprouted bits to just eat the wheat!
He'll be doing a security check. I've got a camera in my coop and I've noticed that each night at bedtime the head chook goes in 1st and does the security check, looking everywhere to ensure there's no predators or bogeymen hiding anywhere. When they're happy that it's allgood they make the...
When it's raining, all my girls go get a drink outve my easter egger's wet beard. They'll walk straight past the drinker to get to that wet beard that usually has a fair bit of dirt included by then. The easter egger who wouldn't win any prizes for tolerance usually doesn't actually seem to mind...
I let my head chook hatch some eggs for several reasons, one of them was to see if she'd stop going broody regularly. She did a great job of doing all the things mother hens do and hasn't even thought about going broody since. I'm thinking memories of chicks pecking her eyes, swinging from her...
