Im hopeful they pulll through I ordered 4 chicks in March they said I would get them in May. It’s now end of June and I have had no response to my emails. I’m about to have my credit card company reverse the 50$ I spent on chicks this is absolutely ridiculous.
I have the same question I have 2 lavender Orpingtons and 3 barred rocks that have been outside since they were 6 weeks. Now at 8 weeks they are still outside but our temp is dropping below 50 and they are saying rain. Do I need to put them back in with a brooder plate ? I’m probably...
I have an olive egger (RRR and an Ameracauna mix) that just started to lay and her eggs are gigantic. I have a full RRR and hers are large but not competed to Olives. Should I be concerned? Olive is on the left Barley (RRR) on the right.
My friend has a rooster that she needs to re-home. We are not able to keep roosters on our properties. He’s a beautiful bird we are located in SoCal (Chino)
She doesn’t look like she’s in a molt. The feathers are just less luxurious. The look a bit tattered and the tips of her tail and wings look like have broken at the ends. I check her for pests on a weekly basis and nothing.
This is Winnies second winter. I have a gallon size feeder that they eat at their own pace. Usually I have to refill at a week to two weeks. I only have two chickens right now. One was gifted to us and then we bought Winnie because I have always loved RIRs after doing a report on them in...
I wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations. My Rhode Island Red is looking a bit rough with her plumage. She is laying 5-6 eggs a week and gets plenty of crumble, scratch, meal worms and whatever she can catch during her outdoor time. I inspect her on a weekly basis for pests no louse or...
So I came home from a walk to find a ton of one of my chickens feathers in front of my patio door. Yesterday she had a close call with a hawk. I’m curious is this stress induced feather loss or normal molting? I checked her out and she seems as cantankerous as ever( normal for her) just loosing...
Love your article! My parents bought me a coop kit last year for Mother’s Day when we were adopted by a wild chicken ( granted I was leaving out food). We had it perched on the middle of our hillside so everyone could enjoy our girl. Long story short the wild chicken didn’t do well but our...
I have had a pooping problem on my back patio. This buggers poop a lot! We have a huge yard for them to be free but they choose to sit on the patio. This upsets the hubs so I have an anti-chicken spray bottle filled with disgusting water! The girls hate it. They get sprayed if they are on the...

We close the roost at 9 pm and open it at 7. Then the roost and run are open all day. They have two water dishes changed daily one by the coop one on the patio. And they have feed/mealworms/scratch 2 times a day thrown onto the hill to encourage foraging.
Hey, the coop is small but my girls only use it at night or if we have major construction going on. They are free range all day and only go in their coop and roost to lay eggs or go to bed. The majority of the time they are on the hillside combing through our grass or lounging in the shade on...
Thank you she is the trouble maker, but a very sweet chicken. She allows my 2 year old to pick her up and hold her. He loves his chickens and enjoys helping me take care of them. I’ll try covering them. I might have to secure it somehow because we constantly have a strong breeze in the afternoon...
I have two girls, my bantam Brahma Zena and my RIR Winnie. Winnie has started to cackle at 5 am because she wants out of her hen house and run. We shut our girls in their roost at night to keep them more protected from the many predators we have in the area but she is not happy about the...
I have my 80 lb shar pei lab mix that has accepted the girls as family in the yard during the day. And at night I have a .177 pellet gun that I practice with on a daily basis for night issues. Pellet guns are not consisidered a weapon and can be discharged on property in my county. It sounds...
