Sick chicken threw up small snail shells

I noticed that our girl was not feeling well this morning. Her crop was full as well. I gave her an Epsom salt bath and she began to vomit. I held her upside down and I think all of the old food came up but so did three tiny snail shells. Have you see this before? What should I do about this...

    Egg-bound chicken?

Thank you and I wish you the best as well! I will be following you and others to learn as much as I can. This looks like a really incredible community of support. I’m so glad I found it. I’m sure I will have more challenges and questions ahead but hopefully not in the near future. Take care!

    Egg-bound chicken?

Thank you for telling me that and giving me that final word of comfort. Means so much. I’m sure it’s obvious how much I struggled with this: grasping for information as I was needing to make decisions. You have really been a lifeline. Along with Rosie our two (older) cats became ill and we had...

    Egg-bound chicken?

Excellent information/resources and thank you for your kind comments and support! We did not peel the skin back, because we thought we were looking at a solid mass —as we cut into it slightly. I see what you’re saying (by looking at the link you shared) that there could’ve been an egg inside of...

    Egg-bound chicken?

Thank you the guidance! My daughter and I made an effort. We didn’t get too far but I’m hoping we were able to determine enough that you can look at this photo and give us your thoughts. (I’m sure you and others look at these types of sights but ‘GRAPHIC’ warning on the photo nonetheless.) I...

    Egg-bound chicken?

Do you usually use a razor blade or how do you make the incision? Any danger of anything contagious? We are going to, of course, have on gloves but any other advice? I think we’re going try to do this.

    Egg-bound chicken?

I too would like to know what actually killed her but knowing absolutely nothing about this, it felt overwhelming for me to try to do a necropsy on her. Is it as simple process? My daughter and I both talked about it. I wish there was someone here that could help us. Having that big question...

    Egg-bound chicken?

Thank you so much. You were a good friend and advisor through this time with Rosie ❤️. My only solace is that right up until yesterday she was still eating and going to the bathroom, normally, so she was relatively good up until the end. She probably had some sort of reproductive cancer, as you...

    Egg-bound chicken?

She passed away naturally within the last hour. Thank you for the support. It hurts to lose them. I think the warm Epsom salt bath last night took her down more quickly. But I also believe, it was a blessing because she had been holding on for many weeks and I know she wasn’t feeling well.

    Egg-bound chicken?

Well, this morning‘s news is not good. In an effort to try to make her feel better, we gave her a warm Epson salt bath last night. Same routine and temp of the water as always. It worked so well in the past. This time, afterwards, she tucked her head and went to sleep. This morning, I found her...

    Egg-bound chicken?

My apologies for the delay in giving an update. The good news is Rosie’s crop does seem to be emptying. She is just eating so much throughout the day that it gets very large. It’s odd that she has such a big appetite yet by her wings drooping, you can tell she’s not at 100 percent. I’m still...

    Egg-bound chicken?

Update: Rosie’s crop is still full and hard and I’m concerned that she doesn’t seem to be going to the bathroom as frequently. Can I give the coconut oil directly into her mouth as a liquid? Anything else we can do? I watched a video online about trying to make a chicken throw it up but it also...

    Egg-bound chicken?

We’ve been away most of the day today, so just now able to respond. I put Rosie back into her garage coop so she can be calmer and warmer. I’m going to try these suggestions tomorrow. Thank you so very much for all your guidance and wisdom. You have guided me through this every step of the way...

    Egg-bound chicken?

Here she is this morning. Would you consider this a full crop? Also see how she has her wings dropped down with the under-wing feathers showing. What do you make of this?

    Egg-bound chicken?

It seems like the stress of being out in the big coop near the others —even in a confined environment—is making her feel worse. Today she was standing up with her eyes closed which I haven’t seen her do for many weeks. I bought some vitamin B in a liquid form to give her. Going to try that. I’m...

Thank you so much! I do too. It’s been quite a journey trying to get her back to good health.

    Egg-bound chicken?

It’s dropping down into the 30s tonight so I wanted her to be in the big coop with the rest of the crew. I’m trying something that I hope will work. I’ve put her in a large dog crate with plenty of food, water and hay, inside the coop with the others. That way she’ll be in a warmer area...

    Egg-bound chicken?

Today, I kept her in the adjacent infirmary coupe —which is quite large—and she seemed to do well alone, just seeing the others through the screen. Tonight (again) she is sleeping in a large wire crate, with plenty of fresh hay, water, feed and a treat or two. She didn’t want to stay on the...

    Egg-bound chicken?

Excellent suggestions! I guess I’ll try to put her in with the others tonight. She’s obviously weaker, so praying that they won’t hurt her. Our rooster jumped on her back —and I had to separate them. She definitely can’t take any of that! I’m attaching a photo of her. She’s keeping her distance...
