    August Hatch-A-Long

You're very welcome. I'm all for learning from others experiences and sharing mine. I had a couple of Dominique chicks that had died in the shell from my hatch last week but they did not turn dark. I wonder if it has something to do with the color and weird translucence of the ancona duck shells...

    August Hatch-A-Long

After candling and water candling with absolutely no movement and the eggs turning black, I made the decision to do egg autopsies. Taking care that if there was the slightest sign of life to take measures to do anything to save them. I have been reading a lot on saving preemies. They were all...

    August Hatch-A-Long

Mine seemed fine when I candled on day 18. And then the one that hatched 3 days early. I feel like I need to do something. Mine haven't smelled bad either. My humidity has been on the low side occasionally but my temp has been rock steady.

They haven't rocked any either. I had one hatch on Sunday while still in the turner on lockdown.

These are the eggs that are due to hatch tomorrow. I'm worried because they are turning dark. Should I be worried?

    August Hatch-A-Long

I'm so nervous! My duck eggs are due to hatch tomorrow and I'm worried. Here's the thing... Sunday (lockdown day) I looked through the window of the bator and an empty egg was staring at me!!! I found a perfectly dry little duckling stumbling around on the turner!!! It wasn't like that a few...

Float Testing, Checking Egg Viability For Late Or Overdue Hatching

I think I will try this test on Saturday if my duck eggs don't hatch by then. They are due tomorrow. The reason I am concerned is that I had one duck hatch on lockdown day, Sunday! I was going to take the turner out around 9 Sunday night, it was about that time at night that I set them, and I...

    July Hatch-A-Long

Out of the 11 I locked down on Sunday I have 8 hatched, one pipped and I think 2 late quitters. Not too bad, so far, for my first hatch of shipped eggs I think. :)

    July Hatch-A-Long

Haven't been by here in a few days. Lockdown was Sunday. My 11 Dominique's are due to hatch tomorrow. I did a quick candle and I might have a late quitter. I did see several internal pips, though, but nothing external. Gotta get the nursery ready !!!!!:yiipchick

I candled my 8 ancona duck eggs Wednesday night (day 7) and had one quitter. Hoping the rest make it! :fl They're due august 6.

    July Hatch-A-Long

I candled my 23 eggs Wednesday night (day 7) and I had 4 clear and 8 quitters. So now I'm down to 11 in the bator. I'll be happy to get half that to hatch. These are eggs that were shipped from North Carolina to East Texas. This is my first experience with shipped eggs, so we'll see.... :fl. On...

    August Hatch-A-Long

Woot! Had to move the chicken eggs in with the ducks. I couldn't get their incubator to hold steady after I added them. Now they're one big happy egg family until chicken lockdown. I have two weeks to get the other incubator ready for hatching.
