I have a friend that is battling health issues and is going to be traveling out of town for 3 weeks. She doesn't have the strength and stamina to secure her old dilapidated coop and run before leaving. I offered for her to bring her 6 chickens over with their tractor so we could care for them...
Such a pretty girl! Is that a muscovy? If so will she mate with that drake? We have muscovy and Cayuga's. The Cayuga's breed our girls but they have never produced offspring. We have a male muscovy and that is what is hatched. I've seen a video explaining that muscovy hens can in fact select if...
Thank you for the encouragement! I want sure how he would do without the webbing. I have no idea what happened to the poor fella. I suspect a snapping turtle but I really have no idea. Thanks again!
Our Cayuga has an injured foot. One of his toes is separated from the web. I put wonder dust on it to stop the bleeding and put him in a dog crate bedded with hay and food and water.
Any suggestions appreciated.
:idunno I have no idea why they would do that unless looking for food or mates. Bummer, I'm sorry.:hugs They may come back as easily as they left. Maybe someone else can give you some better answers.
Good luck with that!! I tried and tried vent sexing day old muscovy ducklings with no luck. From what I have researched it should be done when they are a day or two old and you can damage them in the process.
I made a short video of one egg that has movement inside. I believe that it is the little break moving as the little one breathes. Now what? Do I slip it under a momma that has just started sitting and keep checking if it has hatched or keep it under a heat lamp? There is definitely life inside...
Yes veining in a couple of the eggs. At this point I just want to make sure that I don't have any that are ready to hatch. If they are just fertilized yet a ways from hatching I will just let them go since momma hen has moved on from the nest.
Maybe next time she lays eggs it will be in a better...
Mom muscovy has been sitting for entirely too long. Her eggs keep rolling out from under her and getting cold. I did slip a couple of other abandoned eggs under her thinking possibly she could hatch them. I relocated the nest but many of the eggs were dark so I thought that it was time to...
I have two hens on nests in the coop. One nested on the concrete floor, with deep bedding,. Her eggs keep moving out from under her. Bless her heart, she started in the corner but every day I have to reposition her and get the eggs under her. I really doubt that any of the eggs will still hatch...
Crazy Broody Muscovy hens!!
I have experienced great frustration with trying to keep my Muscovy ducks safe. We have dealt with snapping turtles, blocked dangerous or inaccessible areas, or so we thought, that they could lay to no avail.
I CANNOT get over how very broody they are.
Our numbers...
We have 30 muscovy babies and 13 adults, so we have ducks everywhere. They fly to and from the pond, pastures, etc. We have a Golden that runs at high speed send will run over things, people ducks, etc., in his path without a thought. He on occasion will bark or chase them when they fly but he...
That's funny! Mine mostly do the same however we are sneaking in pets when we are giving them special treats. Some totally freak but most of them are getting acclimated. We have a couple that we can hold. I am certain that if I worked with them more that they would be climbing in my lap. They...
I am curious if one has two or more muscovy hens, might they fly away in search of a drake? Or is it possible for free ranging hens to be content without a drake in the mix? 3 years ago we had a random muscovy hen appear on our farm. We tamed her over a couple of months but then she started...
Honestly, I don't know that you can do much about it unless he is separated. My muscovys breeding is pretty brutal and I have multiple hens. When our, this seasons hatched, drakes are big enough they will be removed from the masses. Boys can be trouble. Attacking you is an absolute NO! There...
