I like the open front of your run, gives them lots of fresh air. A coop could be built under half of the roof, something you could lock up at night to keep them safe and a place for them to lay eggs. The more I research, the more I like the Wood's Coop, designed by Dr. Woods. It seems to give...
That brooder box looks very nice! you will certainly have lots of fun with you little chicks. There is loads of information here you will find very useful when your chicks arrive.
Hello Trina! So glad you have joined BYC :welcome. There is so much information on this site from so many experienced people. I myself just have 5 chickens right now, I have had chickens in the past and wish I could have been a part of this community then, the knowledge here is equal to a...
I did use an incandescent light bulb in a cinder block to keep their water from freezing, so far it is working, did not leave it on over night. My chickens are doing good also, no signs of frost bite, the coop did not have any frost on the windows, they all came out this morning and seemed to...
My chickens are also doing good without any heat, except for the heated soapstone wrapped in a towel, I put it under their straw in the run where they eat. I also use some baby oil, coconut oil on my skin before I go out, makes a huge difference on my cheeks.
I went out to the coop, took out some warm mash, my heated soap stone wrapped in a towel, inside the run it was 10 degrees, outside was -6, everyone is doing fine so far.

I was thinking of trying a dog dish, I have a heated small bucket also, I was just worried if they would get their feet in it, did you ever have that problem?
Hello! from central Ohio, you will really enjoy this site, lots of good ideas and advice from so many experienced people who love what they do! :love:welcome:thumbsup:highfive:

You all have so many good suggestions! Thank you so much! I just took out some warm scrambled eggs to my chickens and a small amount of warm water with nutria-drench in a bowl, just enough for me to make sure they all drank what they wanted then brought the bowl back in the house. I am so...
