    quail nesting boxes

I've had bob, cots and buttons, and they all used the nest boxes I gave them. Sometimes they'll lay an egg outside the nest box, but when I check later on, they'll have rolled the egg into the nest with the rest.

    Icelandic Chickens

I've heard that having a few black spanish turkeys on the yard will deter birds of prey. Apparently they look a lot like vultures to them.

    Keeping Female Button Quail Together?

I did not have good results with this. My first hatch of buttons, from shipped eggs, resulted in 4 buttons, all female. After a certain age, they did NOT get along. I had to separate them. One of them never laid an egg until she had her own space. I figure it was the stress as she was on the...

    Tried to candle eggs

It can be difficult to candle quail eggs due to the shell colour. The coturnix are hard to see into and the button eggs are darn near impossible. I use a super bright led flashlight on the fat end of the egg. I candle when I set them to look for cracks in the shell, and then I candle again...

A Few Days to Hatch, and Still Nothing to Feed Them!

Another problem with feeding cat food is the lack of vitamin D in it. Cats and dogs are capable of converting vitamin D2 into vitamin D3, so D2 is what cat and dog food contains, as it's cheaper to source. Humans and chickens need vitamin D3, especially in the winter when there isn't a lot of...

More Button babies. *Updated with Pics!*

I put away my incubator already, but my button Mamas had other ideas. I just had 2 of my pairs hatch out 6 babies each yesterday from setting their own eggs. Who says buttons don't go broody? I'm so happy to have little baby buttons with a Momma to raise them. I always feel bad raising them in a...

    Hatching bobs & coturnix together

Bobs can be really nasty even as chicks. I had to separate them from the cots as we caught one of the bob chicks running around with one of the cot chicks in his beak & shaking it.

    I am just stunned

The problem with that is that I am not in Michigan myself right now so I can't set them. Otherwise I would. So as I said before, if anyone wants to give em a shot, they're free for the taking. Quote: Yes, I did that as well.

    I am just stunned

Quote: Yes, it was her mistake. When they were late, I went back to the messages I sent to her and checked and it was definitely the correct address that I gave her. When the box arrived it was obvious that she had left out the apt number the first time, and wrote it in on the box later. In...
