    Feeding with the time change...blehh

I just worry about mice and rodents getting into the feed. I only have 3 chickens so I don't want food sitting out too long and going bad. I also cant free range during week days as I am at work almost all day.

    Feeding with the time change...blehh

My original plan was to feed the ladies twice a day, I have a feeder style that I could fill up a weeks worth at a time but prefer not to do that as to not attract predators. I work 8:30-5 so by the time I get home and go straight to the coop the ladies are already roosting....not quite in the...

Chickens more interested in scratching for bugs than pellets?

Do you think they will become more interested in pellets as they start to dwindle the bug population in their coop/run?

Chickens more interested in scratching for bugs than pellets?

Hi! :frow My ladies have been home for 2 days now! So far they seem very happy and are drinking good! However I plan to feed them layer pellet twice daily but they really aren't that interested. I feed them 1 cup of pellet and they peck at it for a few minutes then go back to scratching in...

Chickens are home! (New coop and first flock)

I have an old play house that I plan to move beside it and turn into a housed coop but that will be a little bit down the road. Other people in my area have had quite a bit of success with the dog kennel housing so I think/hope it will be fine for now :)

Chickens are home! (New coop and first flock)

Moved the ladies home today! :wee Got these girls last weekend at my 4-H chicken show and sale (I’m a 4-H agent in North Carolina). These speckled Sussex ladies have been raised by 4-Hers from chicks since June. They were born about mid June! No eggs yet but hoping for some soon as they get...

    Hen or rooster?

Bought what I thought was 3 pullets...have had them about a week (first night home from my friends house was last night!!) But this one has sprouted a really pretty (but a little out of the ordinary) tail fearher that has made me start questioning her/his gender. Her comb does seem to be a...

I think you guys are right! Plus I am a 4-H agent and will be doing embryology in 10 second grade classrooms which means 120 chicks need homes, maybe I will keep a few of those!

    3 hens..1 rooster?

My ladies were born in early June and raised by 4-Hers, I bought them at a sale this past weekend. This rooster is pretty young as well but not sure of exact age as my friend really isn't as attentive with her chickens as I would suggest lol. She hatched out several chicks in the early spring...
