    Avi-vital vitamins as a preventative

I think I may be at fault a bit myself, I spoil them a little bit so that's why they've become a bit picky, though since noticing that I do refuse to waste perfectly good food so that's why I started sneaking it into their scraps cause I noticed they will devour the scraps. I've also stopped...

    Avi-vital vitamins as a preventative

Hey thanks for that, they also get other sources of protein in the food scraps and free range, and I sneak in some protein pellets softened with their yoghurt so I think their protein is fine. I did notice they weren't eating the protein from the higher protein percentage mix I was giving them...

    Avi-vital vitamins as a preventative

hey guys I bought Avi-vital vitamin booster for my flock with the intention of giving it to them occasionally as a vitamin booster in their diet. My girls eat a 15% protein seed mix, plus free range and food scraps. Usually plenty of leafy greens when I have them. I have no reason to...

3 week old chick acting like a Roo?

I have 5 baby silkies chicks 3 weeks old. I was able to put 2 of them with one of my hens and the other 3 I have had to hand raise. Of the 3 I believe 2 of them may be Roos and one a hen based on how they are acting. The 2 Roos are flapping their wings, hiking their necks up and flapping...

My doctor wants me to do whaa-a-at?!?

I'm no doctor but from my understanding that's inhalation of fungal spores . Could you hire someone to clean the coop and area for you to remove as much mold as possible (or maybe even do a swab test to see if it's even coming from the coop, it could be coming from the house or another area...

    Questions about behaviours of silkies

Hey all, I have 2 silkies and I've been reading as many articles as I can. And I just had a couple of questions. 1. Egg laying - I know on average they lay 120 eggs per year, less so in colder months, etc, just wondering from those who happen to have silkies is their laying intermittent...

It happens, and honestly after realising how sick she actually was I think it was better than forcing her to live in pain. It's just one of those things that happens.

Comment by 'Schmay' in article 'Chicken Treat Chart: The Best Treats for Backyard Chickens'

From the research I have done and people I have spoken to it seems to be that green tomatoes can be toxic to chickens but the ripe red tomatoes are fine. And the reason you keep them away from the tomato plants is so they don't eat them while they're green.

    New chicken mum from Australia

Sometimes it's gorgeous to watch the birds especially in the rain when they jump into baths and clean themselves but other times they're a little bit of a pest, they eat the chicken food, they poop everywhere, they get spooked so easily, plus the potential of disease and predators. But they...

    New chicken mum from Australia

My flock is going great. Apart from one bird that had to be put down due to basically being old and sick (that was a post I put on this site originally which everyone was so helpful with) but other than the being thrown in the deep end in my first two weeks of having chickens everything has...
