Thanks for the fast responses! I do apprecite it very much.
Really? The rubberband will get ground up!? It isn't just a straight up rubberband it is the woven kind for pulling your hair back. Forgive me if I am niave in this matter, but I feel like it wouldn't be possible for such a sturdy...
Thanks all for the input. smile I followed up with my vet and he said the reason for only washing the wound with mild sop and water was just to keep it clean and to mostly stimulate healing/skin growth on the area by the water pouring from the faucet onto it. I wash it twice a day. He didn't...
Thank you all so very very much with all of your input. I can't tell you enough how much it means to me! GMV, I am going straight to the vet with all those questions. Thank you! Thank you! I will keep you all posted. And by the way, Smokey layed an egg this morning!!! Phenomenal.
My 6 mo. hen has a very large open wound that is approx. 3 - 4" across "square" on her "hind quarter" behind her wing and it is all the way to what I think would be the pelvic bone and then down to her underside there is only what seems to be a very thin membrane holding her intestines in. I...

I got chickens to be more self sufficient as well and have found them to be great pets too! I love them to pieces, I have to admit. I also like the fact that I got heritage breeds which are all interesting to learn about while helping to preserve our genetic past. (I am a heirloom seed...
Yes, do use what you've got! I remodeled from something worse and am glad I did! This structure looks excellent and still "square". Meaning you shouldn't have a problem with cuttting wood and insulation to fit!
Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. If anyone else has anything else yet to add I'm all ears too.
I am really hoping to be able to tell the sexes a little after a month because I have been planning to only really accomodate about 15 hens in my coop, hopefully half or so of what I've got...
OK, so I'm wondering how I can go about sexing my birds that are about 2 weeks old now. Little did I know that I could sex them within the first few days by looking at their wing feathers. Figures! But then I did read somewhere that in "heirloom/heritage" chickens this method of sexing does...
