I have only hatched chicks 2 times and i always used a broody hen but I offered some fertile duck hatching eggs to and ffa program as a hatching project and want to help get the best hatch rate possible but I know absolutely nothing besides ducks taking 28 to hatch and not getting the eggs cold...
My ee hen seemed fine but today i opened the coop to check for eggs and saw her in the nesting boxes with a swollen vent and blood and yellow goo on her tail feathers it i looked it up and it looked like vent gleet but she has labored breathing and clear discharge from her mouth

I noticed my poor Peggy had a bit of a limp and did some research to what it could be and I think it is bumble foot it is warm to the touch
What do you recommend doing about it

From what I have read they usually lay eggs between 5 and 6am I personally prefer to keep them in a bit longer than that just in case (until around 7am) I would recommend keeping them locked up at night and letting them out sometime after 6 so the eggs will be in their house or pen
I have a chicken coop that i wad planning to convert to a duck house but its got hardware cloth all the way around so I wont have 2 worry about my cats i think i may keep them outside and put the heat lamp in there and move my older ducks in there once the babies are introduced
