Hi,
Last weekend, we treated our chicken for a pretty severe case of bumblefoot. My husband did the surgery, first by removing the black scab on the bottom and pulling out what he could, and then by opening up the top of the foot and removing the rest of the kernel. The chicken literally had...
Hi,
My flock got spooked yesterday and flew around in the run. One of them got injured (I didn't see exactly how), and now she has been badly limping for a day. I have separated her from the flock during the day (I have a large chicken tractor that I can fit inside my run). I keep her in...
Thank you. There are no eggs for her to sit on because we have a roll-away nest. I may try duct-taping all of the nest box openings at dusk so that she can't get into any of them.
I have a young Barred Rock who has become broody. I tried taking her our of her next box last night and put duct tape across the front, but then I found her in a different next box by the evening! Now I see that she is camped out on the roll-away bin in front of the nest box (maybe she figured...
Thanks. This is my first group of chickens and I'm a bit nervous. Also... sorry about all the pics. I had trouble uploading (obviously) and couldn't figure out how to delete them.
I have nine laying hens and three nest boxes. This morning, one of my hens kept chasing two other hens out of whatever nest box they tried to lay in. One of the hens got injured (she is bloody right behind her comb). I rescued the other one as soon as she laid. Two questions:
(1) How do I...
Hi... Wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a poultry veterinarian in Metrowest MA. I live in Lincoln. I fortunately don't need it right now, but don't want to be hunting around for one when I do need one. Thank you!
Thank you!
The net I ordered (off of Amazon) is 25' by 50'. It was only around $30, so if it's a fail, we can try another one. Some of them run in the hundreds of $$.
Hi Everyone... I live in Lincoln, MA. Received our first group of girls this past September and a second group in October. Had ten total but lost one (horribly) this week to a hawk. Totally devastated! Now my girls are confined in their coop until I can get the net I ordered installed over...
Thank you all so much for your replies, support, emoji hugs, and advice. I have already placed my aviary netting order and now just have to get my husband to go out in this horrible New England winter weather to install it with me.
The emojis you posted next to the word "cam" depict EXACTLY how it went. The only thing it doesn't show is the flood of adrenaline that went through my veins when I realized what I was actually seeing. Just horrible... I still can't go into my run to see the "spot" where it happened.
Hi... I'm pretty new to being a chicken mom, having started my flock this past September. They are my passion and have brought me endless joy since Day 1. Yesterday, we lost our first (hopefully only) chicken to what we believe was a hawk. Our coop and run are secured around the perimeter...
