Chicken injured her leg

Hi,

My flock got spooked yesterday and flew around in the run. One of them got injured (I didn't see exactly how), and now she has been badly limping for a day. I have separated her from the flock during the day (I have a large chicken tractor that I can fit inside my run). I keep her in there during the day with food and water. Her right leg is definitely warmer than her left one, but I don't see evidence of a broken bone. I gave her a baby aspirin. At night (at least last night), I let her back in the coop when all the others were on the roost so she could sleep with her flockmates. I took her down this morning and put her back in the chicken tractor. Is there anything else I can/should be doing for her??? I am going out of town on Wednesday and the flock will be in the care of my pet sitter. I'm worried that if she is still limping then the sitter won't be able to handle the situation.

Could be an injury, or Marek’s Disease (the symptoms of Marek’s can be brought on by stress).

I know it's an injury because it happened right after the flock got spooked and was flying around like crazy in the run.

I have the same issue and think it is a sprain. Does anyone know what to do about a sprain. She is walking around limping like me. I also have a sprain foot.

I have had experience with chickens with leg injuries before and usually they are not life threatening, so hopefully that will put you at ease. Chickens are pretty resilient, so I would say that you should just keep an eye on her, and if her bone is not broken she should be fine with the pet sitter. The biggest thing you should watch out for is the other chickens pecking on her. The last thing you want is for the injury to get worse because of the other chickens.

Did you find any help??

Not from the forum. But did my own homemade techniques and she is doing so much better. I massaged her leg for about 20 minutes and though it isn’t recommended by vets gave her a 1/4 of a baby aspirin. Within a half an hour she was doing a whole lot better.
