Alright, so egg 15 did hatch, but it was weak and died pretty quickly poor thing. So I have 14 healthy birds, all 3 with leg issues are now corrected and strong. So set 20, 18 were viable, 2 quit early on. 1 DIS, 1 hatched but died, 14 healthy birds. I’m very happy with those numbers.
I know I should have, i knew where they were in the turner but once they started playing egg ball it was a guessing game. If it’s one of those eggs then it would technically be pipped on day 19 and zipping on 20. It’s furiously working on it so I guess we will see if I wake up to a chick tomorrow.
So it’s day 21, I had 2 eggs left in the incubator. Was going to turn the incubator off last night at end of day 20, well when I came home from work and peeked I had an external pip on one! Bird is still zipping it’s way out, so hopefully I will have a new chickie in the am! (I did add 2 eggs...
Alright 14, of The 18 have hatched. 2 of them were early quitters, I’m giving the last 2 eggs another day but they haven’t even internally pipped yet so not sure. Still I’m very happy with 14 of 16 hatching! These are the eggs from my original set from Kansas City quail that were shipped and I...
That isn’t a very nice way to ask a group of people that actually keep and hatch quail... Personally, I like the eggs, especially for baking and scrambled. I like the meat, and while they are smaller I can raise more quail meat for less money than it would cost to do broilers. I got into them...
Alright guys, today is the “official” hatch day. I woke up to 7 chicks in the incubator, 1 has hatched, 2 are in the process of zipping. (So 10 total so far) plus multiple more have external pips. I did help one that is zipping, because it’s been zipping since last night (was about half way...
Checked the quail 40 minutes ago and nothing but slight pips in 8 eggs I could see, just went back in and saw one just hatching and then got to sit and watch a second hatch right after! Impatiently waiting for more to come, brooder is ready but I am limiting opening as much as I can and I’m not...
Thanks everyone! They gave me an egg turner that goes with it, but I’m currently using for quail eggs so I’m not sure I can put them in the regular size turners.
Hey all, someone gave me a little giant still air incubator 9200. I currently use a different brand forced air model that can only hatch 20 quail eggs and less than 10 chicken eggs, so this would be awesome to hatch more. But I can’t find many reviews on it. Anyone have any ideas? Should I add a...
I have an external pip! Just a tiny tiny noticeable crack and some wobbling in the egg that’s right up front. Hoping to wake up to a chick or some significant zipping.
Day 16 for me. 20 went into the incubator, pulled 2 eggs at day 10 for no development at all. So 18 total in lockdown but 2 looked like they quit, 16 that actually looked like they were going to hatch and I got to see multiple wiggling babies. Very excited! Hoping to get multiple healthy babies...
I’m back! Going to add eggs in a few hours once the incubator is up to temp. Question, can I add another 3 eggs tomorrow around 4 if I put them in today around 12? Will it make much of a difference if they go into lock down a day earlier with the rest? I know some do staggered hatching but I...
Do you have a vet that is willing to do it? Many do not. I would be concerned that the rooster would pick on him personally but you could try and then separate if needed.
So I’m finally moving my group to their outside pen, due to having 3 males I have to split them up. We will be doing a more automatic system shortly but have other things needing done at the moment. So my question is, can I use a chick waterer for them without marbles? I use a quail waterer for...
Guys! I got my first egg! Birds hatched Easter and the following two days so they are just under 6 weeks. I am so excited! Hopefully I will have some fertile eggs here in a week or two to incubate again.
You can google to get an idea but fertile eggs should have a bullseye appearance. So if you don’t plan to incubate those ones you can crack them open to check.
