Interesting Black and Carmel colored Hen

Any ideas what the breed might be on this one? She’s really beautiful, darker on the head with a caramel body, and black &caramel tail feathers, grey legs and a black tipped beak.

    Very unique tiny chick identification

Hi! We received two of these chicks in an assortment box from Cackle Hatchery. They are smaller than the rest but very bold and friendly. I’m struggling to identify their breed? Any one familiar with these? Thank you!!

One year old cuckoo maran does not appear mature

Last February I purchased four cuckoo marans from cackle hatchery. One chick died within a week but the other three were strong healthy chicks and grew well. Two of them started to lay late summer, somewhere around six plus months old. The third however seems to have not matured any since then...

What is this thing in the egg?

hello! Certainly I assumed our eggs couldn’t be fertile as we culled our only rooster maybe 8 weeks ago, however this egg looks like the target I was told fertile eggs would have and we had what I swear looks like a tiny chicken fetus in one of them. Pictures attached below. Can anyone with...

One chicken, two shades of brown?

I am new to backyard chickens so I still have so much unknown. These two eggs were laid a day apart, and I thought we only had one of our pullets laying- yet they seem diffferent shades. One is an almost rosy brown, and the other is a yellow brown. Can one chicken lay eggs with varying shades...

When did your pullets start laying in the spring?

Well, one of my ladies has gone and done it! She’s given me that much anticipated first egg on Tuesday, and then one every day since! They are cute and small, brown with a purpley tone.

Anyone able to tell me the breed of this pullet?

It’s hard to get a good picture of the comb while it’s still light out as I have my toddler with me until my husband is done working and he is itching to get his hands on her, but he wouldn’t be very gentle. Upon further reasearch based on your input I really do think she’s a buckeye- the...

When did your pullets start laying in the spring?

Thanks for the location help, aart— I have added that to my profile. Right now they are on the south side of our property so I believe it would be the longest amount of sun. However our coop is mobile, and will be moved into partial shade come warmer weather. I had been confident that I had...

When did your pullets start laying in the spring?

We don’t give them any additional light, however they are in the sunniest part of our property and get all the light that nature can provide. I suppose it could be the breeds, we have a Rhode Island Red, Barred Rock and a Red Star. We’re not rushing them, just very excited.

When did your pullets start laying in the spring?

Hello, We have three pullets who hatched mid September, and I’m guessing they should start laying as soon as it’s “spring” enough for them— as they seem quite mature now. We’re pretty north in the Midwest so it’s still only 10.5 hours sunrise to sunset and in the 20-30s here. Just curious, if...

    Jersey Giant, Hen or Rooster?

Thanks for all the responses, it’s as I suspected. However he has never crowed, is that normal for a 5 month old Rooster?

    Jersey Giant, Hen or Rooster?

We have a Jersey Giant that’s 21 weeks old, not laying and I think it’s a rooster because of the tail feathers. My husband is pretty confident it’s a hen. Can anyone help us determine? Thanks! I don’t have pictures outside the run as I had my toddler with me when I went to snap the pictures.
