    White Beak growths

No it’s hard, like calcified. I’m just wondering if it might be limescale…we have very hard water here 🤷🏼‍♀️ Just a thought

    White Beak growths

Morning….can anyone tell me what these white growths are on my quail’s beak? She is 3 1/2 yrs old & lives indoors alone so I don’t believe it could be something she’s caught. It’s only appeared in the last week or so & I can’t find anything online similar. Sorry not a great pic, I had to take it...

    Long beak!

I’ll get her a clean brick tomorrow, & I saw something on another thread about putting sandpaper on the bottom of the food container for when they peck around for seeds etc , thanks all 😊

    Long beak!

She’s called Coco, she’s such a lovely dark brown, don’t really know what she is as she was the only dark one in the brood. No her beak doesn’t bother her I just noticed it was looking a bit long, she stopped laying when she was about 6 months old & never has since which is why I guess she...

    Long beak!

Morning all.....I have a nearly 2yo coturnix who lives indoors, she hasn’t laid for over a year now & so doesn’t bother with the cuttlefish, & I’ve noticed her top beak is getting a bit long, anyone got any advice on what I can do to get it down a bit?have been trying to take a pic but it’s...

    Coturnix Quail feather loss

So, an update to this....I ended up separating them, dividing the cage in 1/2 & that seemed to go ok. Got them both out every day for a flap & peck about. Coco still the spazzy one but that’s just the way she is. BUT .... have just been away on a weeks holiday. Had a neighbour calling in daily...

    Coturnix Quail feather loss

Hi.....can anyone tell me if this is a normal amount of feathers to lose overnight for a moulting quail? She has also not laid for a week. She shares a 10’ x 2’ cage with 1 other female, so plenty of room. I don’t think they’ve been fighting, and all the feathers are definitely from the one...

    Toeballs!

I soaked her feet for 1/2h this morning while I was cleaning the cage out (which I do thoroughly once a week, but I pick poo up twice a day) - man those balls are tough!! They barely softened. I managed to pick the smaller one off, she was very good & held still, but the bigger one I only...

    Toeballs!

Hi- one of my girls has a couple of little poo toeballs....only small (about 1/4cm) . What’s the best way to remove them? I’m thinking soaking in warm water, but that would take at least 10 mins, & I’m not sure I could keep her still for that long!!! Any advice? Do they ever just fall off...

    Strange female behaviour?

Thank you, yes that single photo is Oey. Coco is dark brown all over but the eggs give it away with her! Will definitely be putting more enrichment in for them & hidey places.

    Strange female behaviour?

Thank you! My son made the cage with his grandad. Yes they do use the top level sometimes but mostly underneath. In fact that end of the cage is Coco’s, she’s a bit possessive about it & doesn’t like Oey going in there . In fact they never used to use the other far end at all but recently Oey’s...

    Strange female behaviour?

Wondering now then about Oey is definitely a girl- she has laid an egg since they have been separated! Pics attached anyway.....also of their run. I do think it’s a bit bare. Am sat with them out again this morning *stops me doing the housework * & they are fine pecking about together...

    Strange female behaviour?

Thanks so much for replying. I didn’t say but they are laying- interestingly since they have been separated (just over 24h) Coco has laid twice but Oey not at all. I will definitely look into getting some cover. I am out at the mo but will post a pic of the run later in case anyone has any more...

    Strange female behaviour?

wondering if anyone can help with this- we have 2 female Coturnix that we hatched, about 3/4 months old now. They have lived together peacefully until now in a 7x2 foot run. Yesterday Coco started chasing Oey & not letting her in one end of the run, pecking her & not leaving her alone unless she...

    Quail help

In my (fairly limited) experience no..... but then I see you wrote this on Wednesday so I’m guessing something has happened either way now... I’m sorry no one replied to you, it’s hard when you don’t know what to do. How did it work out??
