They are just establishing who is dominant now that the brahma is older. Once that is decided then things should quiet down. The bantam will probably loose his girls though. I saw the same thing happen with our flock.
Four chicks died during the night and 2 more were dead by 3:30 today. This is the worst day yet. A friend is picking up Corid and it should be there tonight. So the dosage is 3tbsp to 5gal of water?
So we had baby turkey with a splay leg and nothing worked. I tried band-aids, rubber bands, string... I even made the little guy a walker like my grandfather uses out of wire. Nothing worked. With the band-aids, rubber bands etc. he would fall forward with his legs out behind and not be able...
He (ringoVT) just got back. He could not find Corid but they did have Sulmet. It was the only thing to treat cocci they had. The guy at the grain store also suggested electrolytes. Should we add both to the water at the same time? He added both to the water and the sick looking chicks were...
He went to the store this morning to get medicine.
I knew a friend of mine always kept her chickens and turkeys separate but I never knew why. Has anyone else had problems mixing them? Or had no problems at all? We have been mixing them all along but only since this outbreak started have...
It has both. Half is a wooden shed area with a door leading into the other half that is a caged in area that is also raised. Kinda like rabbit cage but a lot bigger.
The grain never got wet so its not mold. We have over 80 chickens so the grain doesn't sit around for a while either.
Really...
The chicks in the middle coop, the ones that are dieing, are outside but are off the ground. When this started it was with birds that did have access to the ground and other chicken poop. They had only been on the ground a few days at most before they started having symptoms and we moved them...
This is my real post about our dieing chicks. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=365318 I am just looking for something we can do to keep them alive until we can get medicine tomorrow.
Now that I think about it I did see blood in the coop one day. There were spots here and there like a bird was injured but we checked and couldn't find any injured birds. I never looked to see if it was in the droppings and forgot about it.
I suspect our 3-6 week chicks are dieing of coccidosis. Anyone know about Vitamin A and Vitamin K in feed as a natural method?
I found this when researching treatments; Treatment of Coccidosis: There are a number of coccidostats available, however these should be used precisely. These include...
I found this:
Cedar chips have been known to harbor bacteria that are harmful to chickens. Cedar also gives off fumes that could weaken the chickens' respiratory systems, leaving them more susceptible to respiratory problems. Cedar should be avoided.
Well the cedar shavings have been gone for...
Our chickens and turkeys all run together. We have three coops set up. A 0-2 week old brooder in the house, a 2-5 weeks off the ground coop outside(middle coop), and a 5+ week old large on the ground coop/aviary. If I remember right this all started about 2+ weeks ago when we had placed some...
Oops I posted the same pic for #2 and #3. This is #3
#3 is the hatching incubator. It is a Little Giant Still Air with a fan. We have a hard time getting the humidity right. I taped it all up to see if that would help.
The pie tin thing in the lower left corner has dirt/sand in it. I had removed it over a week ago and forgot to replace it. We put it back last night. The stick thing is a jungle-jim that the small chicks can get under so they don't get run over. I works pretty well. We have never added...
I'm not sure about the temp but the chicks look comfortable. We lower and raise the heat lamp depending on how close they huddle under it. They are all eating and drinking as far as we can tell.
Here is a picture of our brooder.
We are feeding them medicated chick starter. We did start...
Last weekend two chicks in the brooder unexpectedly died. Two days ago I noticed one chick looking lethargic... it died last night. Yesterday one chick was standing so most of it's weight was on one leg but it was still moving around. Today it was holding that leg up to its belly and standing...
