Hi! We have some week-old chicks and their mom who are outside now. Today I was sitting in the run when their mom raised the alarm. There was a snake slithering right through the hardware wire (I believe it's 1/2 in. The run is completely enclosed with it and it goes about 2 feet down into the...
Thank you!!!! I was hoping those were sexable, we're heading back tomorrow either to pick them up or some day-olds that should be coming in. So hopefully they're sex linked or Sapphire Gems. The people there had no idea what they were:idunno the picture with males is very helpful ;)) Thanks!!!
Hi! We were at our local TSC today looking for a few chicks, and they didn't know what breed or gender these were. They just said they're around a week old? Some looked quite a bit more feathered than others. Can we tell if they're straight run or females by the feathering? And does anyone know...
They're doing alright, thanks for asking! Though the sick one is getting more lethargic and her comb is paler. Do you have any recommendations for de-wormers? Thanks!!
Thank you!! Yes, a necropsy would definitely be the next course of action if she died. I actually don't think we've ever de-wormed so that's very plausible. The first two hen's droppings were pretty runny, the third and this one so far are normal.
Hi! It's been a while since I've posted here, but unfortunately we have a problem. Over the past few months three of our year-old hens have passed away in the same way. 😭 They start losing weight very quickly, become feather-light, then die after 2-4 weeks. As far as I can tell, they've eaten...
Thank you!
Thanks! I wish we could! Not allowed roosters where we are sadly.
Third egg from all the birds - yet to have another from that bird. Hope the color doesn't change, though. We'll see :)
I may try that soon :)
Thanks!
We've been getting a constant stream of first eggs from our younger pullets over the past few days! First brown, then olive, and now blue. I think it's our EE cross, but this egg is the bluest one I have ever seen. It's not even really teal, more pure blue. It looks lighter in color in the...
Thank you!! I will keep an eye on him/her just in case, but glad it's normal!
:ya Really hoping it's not a he... I'll get a full body pic tomorrow. Thanks!
Hi! We have an approx. 5 month old Gold Laced Polish. I just noticed that his tail feathers were beginning to fade to white. Should I be worried? (Picture below is one side of the tail, the other one has more white feathers) Thank you!
Thanks! Yeah. He has had some trouble seeing. We trimmed his crest feathers the other day. I'll keep an eye out though to make sure he can see well. :)
Thanks!
He doesn't quite know how to be a chicken :) He always has to be within sight of his mom, sleeps with his head hanging down in front of him, and lies down to peck at things. :love
Pics from today (the others were slightly old, so these are @ 14.5 wks):
Also, we have one more Polish...
