Me too! My mom has been terrified of chickens since she was a little girl. I finally convinced her to come near mine and she loved them so I made her a flock. It’s been about a year and this will be her first loss and she’s not taking it lightly!
She will not use either leg, she is not vaccinated, she was hatched on the property and hasn’t had any access to other birds or ever left. She has no other fitting symptoms of Mareks.
I’ll try to figure out the YouTube thing. I’ve never used it before to post stuff. No swelling, bloating. Literally no physical ailments. She will start panting when we move her around, but she does that normally (she not a human social hen lol).
This is the slurrie we use. We had it recommended years ago by our vet for a lizard and have since kept it on hand and used it for several sick birds and another lizard. Stuff is awesome.
Her poop was runny until she laid the soft shell, it’s now completely normal poop. It’s just so odd, no other hens having issues and she just suddenly dropped and wouldn’t get back up.
My moms hen is refusing to use her legs. We assumed she was egg bound, soaked her and she did lay a soft shell egg. But she hasn’t improved since, she’s eating and she will drag herself around but still won’t walk. She’s separated from the flock in the house, getting 3 warm soaks a day, being...
I found one online that’s prescription only that’s water soluble and one that would take 30 days to arrive, I’m still looking for other options. I’d like to avoid needles as they scare the hell out of me but my mom in law is a phlebotomist so if need be I can call her and ask her to help me
Okay well I can’t afford the testing till at least Friday and even then it won’t have results back till 3 days after they receive my swabs so is there anything I can do in the mean time? I have her inside and her chicks. Ive even gone as far as putting a defuser in there today and running it...
Today is day 3 on antibiotics, most of my chickens have drastically improved, all except my silkie and her 2 salmon favorelle chicks (hatched the 25th of this month). They are still showing all symptoms. Should I continue their Denagard for another 3 days?
Would it be a good idea for me to mix some yogurt into their mash for the next few days while I’m treating to help balance their tummies or should I wait till the 3 day treatment is over?
I have been mixing oregano oil into their food (I feed mash) and they gobble it up no problem, as well as making an ACV/garlic tea and adding it to their water. Seemed to help for a day then nothing. The Denagard arrived today, I gave it to my pullets, adults, and my momma and her 2 chicks in my...
Awesome thank you, I’ll go ahead and treat the entire flock including the wee babies then! I’m terrified the momma showing symptoms will get them before it arrives in the mail! I called every local feed/farm store around here and no one carries it!
Most people are telling me to cull, beings all of the new hens I’ve brought in have had symptoms begin within days of moving here, so I cannot get more birds, or let them leave the property. I’ve been researching for the last month almost daily and crd is the only thing I’ve found that fits...
My flock has been showing symptoms for a while now, I’ve tried all the natural remedies I could find (ACV, Garlic) as well as vetrx in their water. It seems to help for a day, then it’s back to normal. Symptoms include sneezing, open mouth breathing, bubbly eyes, deaths in a few, gurgling...
