Also my first winter with my flock. Some very good advice and tips here!

    Chicken math prevailed!

You're definitely not alone. My chicken math is more like algebra as I excited started my flock with five CCLB pullets from a reputable breeder out west. My husband bought me the supposedly impenetrable universal poultry cage from TSC. Oh, the night before my babies arrived, a friend called to...

What small breed of puppy do you recommend?

I love my Aussies. They love my chickens and protect them.

    Massacred

So sorry. I suffered several losses this year. Very costly since it was a coon with a taste for my expensive CCLB pullets. I think we are secure now.

Any advice on snakes besides sulfer and crused egg shells?

I have also had a large rat snake caught in the act of eating one of my coveted CCLB'S. A 5+ week old pullet so this was no small feat. I also got sulfer, garlic and cedarwood. I was also looking for some lemongrass to plant around the coop. I am all for live and let live but not in my space...

I just loved this post ❤️ We have a small farm and just got chickens. One night inside and out to the feed shed they went. I love my chicks as I do all my animals but they are a labor of love and sometimes bittersweet. Bless you for sharing your story.

What is your favorite chicken breed?

Beginner here: I have 5 four week old Crested cream legbar pullets, a cuckoo maran pullet, a leghorn pullet and a copper maran cockeral? My favorites are my CCLB's and my leghorn. Inquisitive, friendly and great foragers.

    Wow! Exciting!

how do you tell what gender a chick is?

I chose crested cream legbar for my first chicks since sexing is foolproof from day one. I am also a newbie so foolproof was a huge selling point.

Some confusion, will you all help clear up for me?

Feather Lover Farms did include an additional pullet to my order. I just assumed that was to protect against possible loss. BONUS! I know the post office was really excited to see me as my five birds sounded like a full chick choir!

Some confusion, will you all help clear up for me?

I just received 5 CCLB'S a week and a half ago from California to Arkansas. Took two days and they were packed carefully in a small box with holes. There was a heat pack and two small trays (I assume they had contained food). Also a grassy bedding. All healthy and beautiful.

    Help identify breeds/sex?

Thanks! I thought they might have been a bit older but I only had the limited information from the young lady who gave them to me.
