Any advice on snakes besides sulfer and crused egg shells?

My son (4) went out Sunday to get eggs and found a snake. Upon me and my sister running over to kill it, we discovered 2. We killed both and realized one was a rat snake and one was a moccasin. I realize the rat snake (might have been a king snake) is a "good" snake," I have small children and don't want them to get bit. (It FREAKED my son out, he went and crawled up the swing set and stayed in their club house). I've read sulfer and crushed egg shells are good. (1) Where do I get sulfer (2) Will it harm the chickens in anyway? I've gone from 17 eggs a day to 4 so I'm assuming my hens are freaked out also and may be laying somewhere else or we may not have gotten all the eggs and may have an egg eater, but from 17 to 4 seems a bit much for one snake. . .

Neither of those things will deter a snake.

It's most likely after rodents, but it will eat eggs and small birds.

They are hard to get rid of. One of the best things is to clean up any wood piles or weeds where they can hide, but they also spend time underground.

One thing that CAN work is "deer nettiing" which is plastice netting with fairly small holes.
Place a LOOSE roll in the coop, and the snakes will get tangled in it.

You will then have to figure out what to do with an angry snake

I have also had a large rat snake caught in the act of eating one of my coveted CCLB'S. A 5+ week old pullet so this was no small feat. I also got sulfer, garlic and cedarwood. I was also looking for some lemongrass to plant around the coop.
I am all for live and let live but not in my space! Also desperate to try anything.

I never found a snake actually in a nest box but found a Rat snake wrapped around a milk crate we used as a nest box in one of the coops. A couple of coach-whips that were next to a coop were electrocuted on the electric fence because their body's were touching the ground and the electric wire at the same time and they were electrocuted. We found this snake by the chick coop. It looks like the one that was curled up by a next box in one of the coops which I think is also a Rat snake. I did find a rat in a nest box. I put out rat poison in the barn and one of the coops that was infested with rats after moving the birds out and into another coop. I got rid of the rats and rebuilt part of the coop. No more rats...

This snake was the one by the chick coop. A friend killed it. it's missing it's head.
