Well.. when I joined this group I had 4 chicks.. it's been like 5 years and I have 11 girls and 2 roos.. one of my girls is from my original group.. it's been a fun journey. Had ups and downs but 1 thing for sure is I will always have chickens.. here is just 1 pic of the most recent addition.
I think it was an accident. It might have been a fight and she just got her in a delicate spot. It was the leader and she does not usually pick of the bottom one but I know it happens. When they were younger figuring everything out there would be some fighting but nothing to extreme,normal...
Yes we heard it first. The one chased the other. We originally thought something was in the coop but that was not the case. She did get it in the neck, it was laying on the ground struggling to breath.. really did think it was something else but that was not the case.
I have had chickens for about a year now and this is the first time there was a disagreement of sorts. My #1 attack one chicken and ended up killing her. They don't fight nor have they ever been much aggression between them. I am at a lost for words of how it got this far. It was shocking to see...
Mine just started as well.. It took me a min to realize what was going on since they stopped laying eggs.. it's my first time with chickens so it's all new to me..
Mine love watermelon.. I did freeze it and they are it so fast. It's been really hot so I have been freezing everything I give them. I have also taken some mealworms and froze in a cup they liked that too.
My girls so far are ok..but yes these temps are getting a bit much. I have noticed they won't get out of the shade durring the day but as the sun moves they do move. I give all treats frozen and thinking about a mini pool set up this weekend. I don't have a way to set up a fan. I feel so bad for...
Update: found my girl seems she was carried to another spot. I thought there would be more feathers but there was not. I am still not sure what but they were hungry. The head was still attached but her insides were gone. It seems to be a clean kill per say. My yard is fenced in so not a dog. I...
She was not to big. The feathers were mainly right outside the door to my coop. Not a lot so that's why I assume she had to have been carried off. I attached a photo she is the red one.
I lost one of my girls today. I woke up and noticed some feathers. I am not sure what could of got her as the feathers were in one spot. Nothing leading in or out, not any remaining parts. The other 3 are fine nothing seemed to happen to them. I am thinking a hawk but they have never attempted...
I don't know about the taste buds because mine don't eat carrots or pumpkin and they prefer zucchini over squash...don't ask me why but they seem to be very picky...
Good to know. I have done bamboo in my yard and thought it would be great for them to hang out on. They ate the little numbs and seemed to really like them. I'll have to get more for them to eat and was thinking of gathering the dead leaves to use for there nest. They seem to really like that too.
