Hey, what even happened with your hen? I have the same thing going on with one of mind. It started out feeling like a water balloon but I treated her for sour crop and now, a week later, the swelling has gone down and her crop feels like a bag of sand. I'd love some more information, if you have...
Thank you so much! I'm quite new to chickens. She was one of my first chicks! I'm learning as I go.
The raspy breathing happened before I even noticed her crop. Therefore, before any massaging. Although it may very well be the same thing. Just over flow from the crop.
She is a bit less...
When I tried to flush her the first time she grabbed the syringe and ripped it out of my hand. Then went to the bowl and had a big drink. So I've just been letting her drink it, rather than the syringe.
Sorry I misunderstood your question. Her abdomen feels normal, to me. Shes skinny so theres...
The "flushing" thing came from this source https://the-chicken-chick.com/chicken-anatomy-crop-impacted-crop-sour/ I haven't been forcing it down her I have just been offering it to her in a bowl 2 times a day. Along with the salt water she has access to clean drinking water all the time. Her...
Hey Everyone,
I seem to have bad luck with my hens. Once again, I need this amazing community to help me save one of my girls. Jenny is 1 1/2 old and has some troubling symptoms. I'm sure she has sour crop as her crop is swollen and feels like a water balloon. Its warm to the touch and...
I wanted to thank everyone for their support. Sadly, we put Thelma down today. Even with 5 days of vitamin B therapy, her mobility continued to get worse. She lost most use of her other leg this week and was becoming stressed because she couldn't move on her own.
Thank you to everyone who read...
I bathed her 3 times and felt her abdomen for and egg. I also, palpate her. There was no egg in there. They have free choice oyster shells. I cooked this hen up some eggs too. She was laying well up until this crippleness set in.
Thank you! I have tried to look up information on Mareks but I was not sure about it because it says its young chicks that usually get it. I also haven't found any information on rehab for it.
I have added birds into my Coop but months ago. She was laying pretty much everyday before I noticed...
This is very helpful. Thank you. Part of the reason I am needing help is that I haven't found a vet who knows anything about chickens. Ours basically told me good luck and recommended a necropsy once she dies. Which I will have to send the bird away for and it will cost more than my whole flock.
One of my Olive Egger hens seems to have had a stroke or something neurological. She is almost a year old. Please offer any advice!
I noticed her with her wing hanging 3 weeks ago. I wrapped it, thinking she sprained it. A week later she began limping and is really off balance. She has to flap...
Hello Everyone,
I am new to raising chickens. I've been at it for almost a year. My aunt gave my son (who's 2 1/2 now) 2 chicks for Easter last year.
We now have 9 chickens. 8 hens and 1 rooster. We have 1 Barred Rock, 1 Isa Brown, 3 Olive Eggers, and 3 Easter Eggers, 2 barnyard mix (Rooster...
