We started with 4. 4 became 16. 16 became 34. 34 turned into a 100. Now my retirement fun hobby has become a full time job. Still it's a lot of fun, when I mow the yard, or field they follow me around. Bottom line they are very social critters, so no to one. Most hatcherys only sell 5 or more...
I use Purina layers Crumbles as well. The one time the feed store was out of crumbles, I figured pellets would be fine. They didn't touch them, until I crushed them all up into crumbles. Yep, they are spoiled rotten just like the dogs, cats, and human kids.
I buy my Chickens feed from TSC, my dogs food from them as well. My cats food from Wally World, I get the mealy worms for my Chickens from Amazon 11lbs for $44.99.
How likey would they would eventually be excepted by my roosters? I really don't want to have any problems. So I will have either find a home for them or they would be dinner. I would really hate to have to do that. Even when my hens age out I let them retire, when they pass I bury them in our...
A few days ago I was called to a neighbors house to pickup 2 chickens who had showed up, and decided to roost on their front porch. I think they are both male's. They are Americana's, that was what I was told
If you know for sure please let me know. Because I have no idea if these 2 where...

My neighbors called to let me know that her sister had a couple of chickens in her yard, and wondered if I was missing any. I drove over thinking that a couple of my hens had gone walkabout. Turns out they weren't my hens. What they had was a pr of Americana's a rooster and hen. I brought them...
All these chicks hatched betweenarch 15 and April 28th. During the day they free range with the rest of the flock. Every once in awhile a hen gives one a peck, yet they let the little ones take the watermelon, or the organic nut &,seed bread I buy for treats. Really I just get a kick out of...
My Rooster Lenny was killed defending his flock from a coyote. He was brave to the end, by the time I got my rifle, killed the coyote it was to late to save Lenny. Lenny left Lenny Jr to carry on as guardian of the flock. Meet Lenny jr he is the product of a Golden Bovan and Dominant Copper
Welcome, i have yet to find any grass, or even ground cover that a chicken won't have down to bare earth in a couple of weeks. Enjoy your hens. I call mine pets that give me eggs. Once more welcome to back yard chickens. I live in Port Orchard, WA, U.S.A. I raise Novagen Browns, Sexlinks. Color...
I did, I did. It's a puttycat. Maybe he will be my friend. This is a chick from Lenny a Novgen Brown Roostet, and Broomhilda a Dominic Copper hen. This little chick is Gwen. No I don't name all my hens, just the ones who seem to have personality.
I'm confused as to why you would break a hen from being broody. I just reach in grab the eggs on hens that are staying in the nesting boxes. I had a Rooster, so I have 14 new hatchlings. Out of 60+ hens I only have 3 who are broody. Since Lenny died defending his flock, I expect that my broody
