Fully formed egg covered with membrane

The first egg was a normal, solid, egg. Around it was like a very soft shell. It wasn’t completely surrounding the egg, but I think they had been picking at it. It was more like a skin/ membrane around the egg.

Fully formed egg covered with membrane

I think you’re right but in most cases it’s a full shell. I just hope it’s not harmful to her. I hope she’s just figuring it out.

Fully formed egg covered with membrane

Hi! I have 4 Isa browns that are 6 months old. They started laying about two weeks ago. First one... then 2...then three...then finally I got a fourth egg today. I’d already collected three from the coop at 11 am (they lay early). When I looked in their roost just visiting there was another egg...

    Baby feed - adult feed?

Hi! My babies are about 8 weeks and I’m getting ready to integrate them with the biggies. I obviously can’t feed them two separate foods as I’m sure they’ll munch on whatever is around. How do I handle this? please help !!

    Chick with persistent diarrhea, help!

Hi! I have four chicks, five weeks old. Brooder between 65-75 degrees. I’ve noticed that one of them has persistent watery diarrhea, really since the beginning. She is eating and drinking well, growing at the same rate of the other chicks. She has access to snacks since four weeks, but also...

    Babies and cold weather

Hi! I live in Michigan, and have adopted four baby isa browns. They are just over a week old now. Temperatures will really start to drop drastically in October. Will they be ready to survive a winter in the coop? Should I keep them in my garage? Or my basement? I have two other ladies already in...

    My best egg layer quit!

She seems to pick there when she’s stressed in the past. When I put no peck on it stops. I checked for mites and eggs under their wings and around their vents. I didn’t see anything, but will check their roost bar tonight. Thanks for the tip.

    My best egg layer quit!

Interesting. The chicken who hasn't been laying has been pulling out feathers on the other one at night. Could this be because she is bothered? If they have mites will I need to treat the coop, or also their bodies?

    My best egg layer quit!

I haven't looked closely, I just got all new bedding to put down and I'll put some diatemacious earth down too. Any other suggestions?

    My best egg layer quit!

Thanks again for the feedback. I hope she's just taking a little vacay. Chickens are so funny, mine turned their noses up at the wet cat food. I've been giving them worms, so hopefully that will suffice for a little protein boost.

    My best egg layer quit!

Thanks for your response, she had her first molt in the fall of last year. How long does it usually take for a chicken to start laying after a stressful event? Could her light coming down be stressful to her? Or her interactions with the bantam? I'm pretty confident she stopped laying prior to...

    My best egg layer quit!

Hi! I'm Jess, I live near Ann Arbor MI. This is my first post although I have come here for advice and guidance many times over the years through google searches. I currently have two chickens. Sakura is my bantam double laced silver barnvelder. "Tree puff" (a young child named her) is a...
