    Our DIY roost bar

We made all of the roost bars removable so if they get out of hand or too smooshed at the top, we can always take that bar out. We only have 7 hens so they'd still have plenty of room to roost. Thanks!

    Our DIY roost bar

The top brace is flush against the wall, but the actual top roost bar is about 6 inches out from the wall. It's hard to tell that with the angle of the picture. If the girls try to roost on the brace (which they probably will) we'll pull it out a bit. Thanks!

    Our DIY roost bar

This took about 6 hours and we were able to use wood leftover from another project. Love those $0 improvements! Can't wait to finish outfitting the rest of the shed and move the girls in!

    Resin Coop Design

Does anyone have pictures of resin shed conversions they've completed? Looking, specifically, for any that have added a divider wall for a storage area. Thanks!

    Is this normal?

We actually JUST noticed some gross poop in her booty feathers! Do you know if it is safe to treat the whole flock, since they have communal water?

    Is this normal?

Hi, there! Here are some pics of one of my girls. She's a Golden Laced Wyandotte about 14 months old. She's been looking rough for awhile. At first, thought she was being bullied, but never saw anybody else go after her. Checked for mites, never saw any. Today, she started acting strange...

Salmonella?! What do I do now????

Still waiting on the results of the chicken sample from the CDC. I will post an update once we get results. Fingers crossed that they don't match!

Salmonella?! What do I do now????

We really thought we were doing a good thing! Started to question it after these last few weeks. Hopefully, they are starting to build up their immunity!

Salmonella?! What do I do now????

Oh, it was so much worse. It took a full 7-10 days to get back even close to normal. They couldn't control it in the beginning stages, it hit them so fast. The stomach cramping was terrible, also. And there wasn't anything we could do to help them. Just had to let it run it's course.

Salmonella?! What do I do now????

I got a hold of the public health district as they are the go-between for us and the CDC. My son's came back as Salmonella Enteritidis, but still waiting on the DNA testing for my daughter. His matches the genotyping/DNA for 15 current cases being investigated in OH. They are trying to link it...

Salmonella?! What do I do now????

Thanks so much! The kids are much better now! Just sad they are banned from the chicks....

Salmonella?! What do I do now????

They are much better now! Thanks for asking! They each had a good, solid week of misery though....

Salmonella?! What do I do now????

The CDC has concerns about the particular strain that my kids tested positive for. Apparently, it's not a run of the mill strain that chicks carry in their feces. They are treating it more as a contamination, than an infection. I would love for my chicks' results to come back as a different...

Salmonella?! What do I do now????

What is everyone's opinion on the safety of eating their eggs, once they start laying? That's the main concern for my husband.

Salmonella?! What do I do now????

After my son was sick, i saw him put his mouth on the handle of the grocery store cart! I about puked. But since both of the kids tested positive, about 5 weeks apart, it's assumed to be from the chicks. Hoping the results come back otherwise!

Salmonella?! What do I do now????

We actually got them from Mt. Healthy. They were recommended to us from the farm we currently get all of our meat and eggs from. And the kids will no longer be allowed to get over easy eggs! I am really hoping the results come back negative for my chicks!

Salmonella?! What do I do now????

I am looking forward to the test results, although anxiously! The main reason it's thought to be from the chicks is that my kids contracted it about 5 weeks apart. They were not exposed at the same time.

Salmonella?! What do I do now????

So, both of my kids (10 & 6 yo) have tested positive with the same strain of Salmonella. The CDC has done genome testing and it is a strain "common from handling live poultry." They will now be testing a stool sample from my flock for confirmation that is where they contracted it. We have 10...
