The Bunny Chat Thread - For Bunny Owners

Okay, hi there. Wildlife rehabber over here. First of all they are probably only a few days old. Wild bunnies are born with Fur and only spend two to three weeks with mom. Never never never do cows milk. Human formula is also iffy. If you plan to take them in the morning you can try sugar water...

    Driving me insane

If you’re in America it is illegal to own a Canada goose, so be careful. She’s obviously imprinted so will never be able to be wild, but it will be hard to find her a friend. Like someone suggested, a gentle breed of goose might work. First off I’d get rid of the Africans though, they sound like...

    House goose

I’ve found my ducks that had each other imprinted slightly less, but if you spend enough time with both of them together they should be tame. I second the why do you want house geese? I’ve seen some people have them, but they’re extremely messy and loud. No problem with people having them, just...

Can my run support a roof?

It looks great! I’d say it’s sturdy enough, especially for metal sheets, but I’ve never really dealt with actual snow.

    GOAT TALK!!!!

I supplement with deer corn in the winters to keep them in good condition as well as all the hay they want. They prefer weeds to grass.

    GOAT TALK!!!!

I don’t know any goats who like the rain. I’ve heard oberhalsi goats are better than most, and I have seen some surfing saanens on YouTube, but I’ve never personally met one. Goats just really don’t like water and act like it’s basically acid. Which reminds me, make sure your shelters have a...

    GOAT TALK!!!!

Sounds similar to my southern self lol. Mine fare just fine, when we had goats under a year old I would put dog coats on them. Just make sure they have a dry space with plenty of bedding. Goats don’t like getting wet, so if it rains a lot make their shelter a bit bigger because they’ll spend so...

    GOAT TALK!!!!

As adults yes, as babies they need help. What type of winter are you talking? I believe pygmies are more cold hearty than Nigerian dwarfs, they definitely are fuzzier, but you might ask around. goats, of course, need shelter like any animal.

Tired of the ghetto, moving to Mena, AR

Get the right type of feeder and you’ll only have to feed once a week to once a month. I personally like the giant drums that are feed converted and would do it myself if the goats let me. Just a suggestion from one lazy person to another🤣

I have figured out what is wrong with my quail chicks.

Where do you get the information that garlic is bad for birds? I’ve used it on dozens of my own, and have friends do the same. Never had a problem. Garlic also goes back centuries, before we had modern medicines, and it is extremely effective. I would go so far as to say safer than an otc...

I have figured out what is wrong with my quail chicks.

Garlic, apple cider vinegar, chipotle powder, cinnamon, oregano. These all fight coccidia and are what I use. Per gallon I add two Tbs garlic and 1 acv, 1 tsp cinnamon, and a dash of oregano OR chipotle. Be careful with the last two, they’re potent.

    Indoor pet duck

I give my ducks a heat lamp in the winter. Ducks are also pretty good with the cold. Make sure they have shelter, insulation, and of course food and water and they should be fine. Wood shavings and straw is my personal choice, but I have used shredded paper before. I know there is a ton of info...

Is this I absorbed yolk and what do I do?

She is doing fabulously! I gave molasses this morning and moved her and the other two(another hatched) into the brooder box because I couldn’t see anything where it shouldn’t be. She was so hungry, she scooched over to the mash and has been eating and drinking. It’s hard to tell the difference...

How many hens can I fit in my coop?

My first coop was/is an 8x4. It was secondhand but I believe a tsc prefab. It is now old and busty, but I still have chickens who prefer it and I have put plenty of mamas and babies in there when the brooder is full. It has actually held 24 chickens before. But I would never suggest that! After...

Is this I absorbed yolk and what do I do?

This morning I don’t see any more yolk. And another baby hatched and is snuggling her. It’s hard to tell which is which at the moment, but I’m pretty sure that it’s the super weak one (haven’t opened the bator yet) I will give a little molasses for a quick boost and scrambled eggs. Would duck or...
