Can a chicken only use one eye?

One of my roosters was pecked as a chick damaging one of his eyes, but he is still able to eat and drink and at times he gets a little unbalanced and can cock his head to the side, but other than that he is doing well without that eye (playing, foraging, etc.) Hope that helps!

    Rooster’s Eye Swollen

Thank you for the tips! I will look at him today again and try to loosen up some of that pus. When removing the pus, how would you know that you aren’t damaging his eyelid? I can’t really get a good view of his eye at all and I’m worried I might damage his eyelid when removing the pus. Should I...

    Rooster’s Eye Swollen

The rest of the flock seems to be fine. They are eating and drinking and aren’t showing any signs of sickness at this moment. They also are active and foraging.

    Rooster’s Eye Swollen

When using the flushable wipes, I was able to loosen some of the debris/Crustiness, but had this dome-shaped film (now on the top of his eye) and I stopped applying slight pressure with the wipes at that point because I was worried that it would damage his eyelid (I wasn’t sure if it was his...

    Rooster’s Eye Swollen

I’m not sure if it was because of the rooster accidentally scratching his eye after stepping in manure or if it’s a sign of a respiratory disease or Coryza. I’m not sure what to put on it, I was wondering if flushable non alcoholic wipes or normal over- the-counter eye drops could be used. ( I...

    Rooster’s Eye Swollen

Hello. I recently went to my chicken coop to regulate the food and water containers and check for eggs, when I noticed one of my rooster’s (brown red serama mix) eye had something on it. When I looked closer, the eye seemed closed shut with some material covering it, and the other eye was...

    (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I have had bantam chicken for almost a year but I am new to raising newly hatched chicks. I got my first chickens in May 2018. (2) How many chickens do you have right now? Currently I have 7 one year old chickens and 7 chicks. (3)...

    Rejected and injured chick

Originally one of our broody hens sat on 7 eggs and other hens started laying more. Then we had 9 eggs under our hen and marked them so we would be able to tell the difference. After 21 days chicks started to hatch each day for about a week until we had 5 chicks. After 3 or 4 days this one hatched

    Rejected and injured chick

The chick does have its own food and water. One of the chicks eyes seems to be okay but the other eye is swollen and he/she can't open that eye.

    Rejected and injured chick

Hello. I recently found one of my hens starting to act agressively toward a younger chick or runt(one day old) and start pecking it. I removed the chick from our coop and put him/her in a box. He/she seemed to have been bleeding and injured on the head. One of our guesses to why this was...
