I did assist and let it push out of shell itself. There was no blood vessels in remaining in the membrane. It still may not make it but we’ll see. 4 other eggs externally pipped today so will see if they have similar struggles.
Thank you. And just to clarify the broody hen is a chicken.
I will try to post a photo of the external pip (I can’t see the beak). The membrane had looked more white yesterday but now has a brownish yellow color and the hole twice as big as it was yesterday.
This is my first attempt at hatching peachicks. I am using a still air incubator- which I have attempted to maintain temp at 100-101.5 and humidity at around 55-60% will hand turning three times a day (180degrees). I know that these are not ideal but since I don't have an automatic turner or...
I was hoping someone might be willing to give me some advise on best way to set up housing for my flock. I would like to be able to keep 4-6 different breeds with the thought of possibly selling hatching eggs for some of them. I am new to chickens and not sure if I understand pecking order dos...
I have 5 adult ducks, who I pen up at night. I would like to create a barrier within the same pen to brood the ducklings. My question is if the barrier is 18 inches high should I plan to put a top on to prevent other ducks from jumping in or will they likely be fine. Hoping to be able to use...
I had on do this yesterday. I just left in incubator (not sure if option for you) he was the only one in there as to not let any others trample him. It eventually fell off on its own. He does have spraddle leg but I think that’s either because I assisted to early or egg malposition as he was...
I am having trouble keeping humidity up especially if I open vent holes. I have 2 dishes of water with sponges inside, all troughs filled, and a humidifier running outside to help pre-moisten the air. the one whose white membrane is exposed looks dry should I mist them. The humidity has been...
Several more have externally piped and I hear them talking but pips have not processed to much more than a star-shaped crack/cracks. Some of the pips are now >12 hrs I want to just give them more time before attempting to enlarge the pip, but not sure if this is the right call.
This is my first time incubating duck eggs. I am using a still air incubator with the little dial/knob for heat adjustment. I have two hygrometers inside (Govee bluetooth & $10 one from amazon) they of course give different readings but I would say that i have managed a temp of ~102 throughout...
I ended up going with the Bielefelder, Welsummer, and the Blue laced red wyandotte for now. Goal is mostly fun and eggs but filling the freezer is not out of the question especially if I get a mean rooster.
Opps yes sorry I meant auto -sexing. You answered my question perfectly. Thank you very much. These will be our first chickens and from everything I read and hear I like the breed more and more. I am fighting the urge to order a mixed flock as to be able to focus on this beautiful breed. I...
I am looking at ordering some sex-linked chicks. They are significantly cheaper when sold as straight run but given the ease of sexing these types I am worried that I will end up with all roos and not a general split. Does anyone have experience with this?
